About Me
Due to couchsurfing's incompetent capitalistic tendencies, I'm using this less and less. Paying money to host people is truly absurd, and at any point I may not be able to see the message you write me here. You can always (trust) my (roots)/profile/rosencrantz, or find a space on my (couchers), or stop by for (warm showers).
**Hi please no requests more than a week or two in advance! I have no idea if I'm free a month from now!**
**I live with a cat! **
Ended up in Leipzig years ago, found some stability and been here since. Shoutout to helpx.net. My goal is to travel as much as I can without flying, and Europe is ridiculous for that -- there's so much here and everything is so close together, and hitchhiking is a breeze! We're all on couchsurfing so we all agree traveling is amazing, but I think living in a place for a real length of time is such an different experience, and that's what I'm looking for from life. Always looking for music, chill people, book recommendations/trades, cooking exchanges, and good times. Love walking or biking around new areas and finding local (and often cheap!) haunts.
Finally moved into my own place and can host people after years of being hosted! Check out my home section for details :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've almost always traveled solo, and in europe (germany especially, though I love it) it can be tough to get out and get to know people. It's an incredible tool to meet people who are looking to meet people, and especially anyone who knows the area. Although roaming around with someone when neither of you know anything is usually a good time too. I've made so many long term connections through CS (and had my previous apartment through someone I'd stayed with a year beforehand!) and I have a hard time imagining my life without it, honestly. I've been traveling cheap and there's always going to be that side to it, but the experience of couchsurfing is so disconnected from having money that I can't imagine traveling a more standard way unless the situation really called for it.

Music, Movies, and Books
Mostly music with instruments, rock from heavier/bluesier/punkier to soul/funk/jazzier, classical if I'm in the mood, anything with fantastic instrumental work, and especially anything with a horn section. Pretty down for anything though. Second run movie theaters are one of my favorite things.
Parks and Rec, Breaking Bad, Stranger Things, Firefly, Westworld, Bojack Horseman, Avatar:TLA, Critical Role
Donnie Darko, Fantastic Mr. Fox, LOTR, Monty Python, Pixar, Pan's Labyrinth, Snatch, Swiss Army Man, The Lion King
Kubrick, Kurosawa, Coen Brothers, Ridley Scott, Guillermo del Toro, Miyazaki
Moby Dick, Watchmen, LOTR, House of Leaves, The Road, Hitchhiker's Guide, Sherlock Holmes, the Phantom Tollbooth, His Dark Materials, The Good Earth, The Goldfinch, Brothers Karamazov
Currently (re)reading: Moby Dick
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Spent a couple years traveling with helpx and couchsurfing through Germany, Austria, Czech, and Croatia (bits of other places) without ever staying in a hostel/hotel, and almost everything with hitchhiking, except a Berlin-Zagreb bus when I didn't want to miss a music festival!
Teach, Learn, Share
Happy to teach bike maintenance/repair, share favorite dessert recipes. I eat mostly vegan but a bit flexible especially if it comes out of a dumpster. I play bass and bits of piano and guitar and other things, currently in a band. The last couple years I've been doing lots of woodwork and built most of a house with a friend as well as almost everything in my apartment, so happy to build/repair something. Spent a couple years working in a Mexican restaurant cooking and bartending and I am always happy to cook for hosts, or make some drinks if that's what you're into. Tutoring experience in English, math, and science in case that's handy!
What I Can Share with Hosts
Always respectful of whatever home I find myself in, including any house rules and cleaning after myself -- it's your home and I'm grateful to be there. Love to share stories of the bits and pieces I've learned from life and travel! Conversation, book/music swap, cooking, clean up (dishes!), generally handy with fixing things
