ABOUT ME

Gah. What do I say? I'm an adventurer, but with a few miles on me. I've ridden horses, bulls, dog sleds, hot air balloons and whitewater rafts, caught a ride on a freight train, fed marshmallows by hand to a live grizzly, flown upside-down in an aerobatic plane, parachuted, scuba dived, skied, hiked in the wilderness ... on and on.

I'm a freelance writer, author of a book on atheism, professional editor, graphic designer, and photographer ... who also happens to be very, very broke.

I grew up in Texas with rodeo cowboys, moved to the mountains in California and lived there for decades, now live in Upstate New York, near Schenectady.

I'm approaching 60, but I want this part of my life to be about lots and lots of new and different stuff.

PHILOSOPHY

More substance, less flash: Live your life for yourself at least as much as you live it for others. Do everything you can to resist the takeover of your mind and life by corporations, religions, fads, pop culture and other parasites.

Stay a nerd all your life: keep growing and learning. Never let yourself become settled and old. This will mean frequent discomfort, but eventually it also gives you the power of understanding.

Given the choice of adventure or sameness, choose adventure. (On the other hand, grow a brain: 'Adventure' doesn't mean risking your life for nothing.)
