About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Have no idea anymore--write my book? And see the US at the same time? (Not sure this is possible)
ABOUT ME
Responsible and loyal. Friendly, personable and intelligent. A bit of a wanderer. Conversationalist. I love learning about new things--my first road trip through 17 states over three months was one of the most enlightening experiences. This country has so much to offer and I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunities that couch surfing opens up to me when I travel.
Now I'm on the road again and it never fails to surprise me how much I learn as I go--even when I think I know what I'm doing.
PHILOSOPHY
Intelligence is not reserved for those who pay for it, nor does learning have an age limit. Too often, I encounter people who think they know everything and have nothing to learn from those around them. Throughout my travels and daily life, I have been able to learn from the very young and the very old.
You never know how much you can do until you try.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I love meeting new people and story swapping. The more people I meet, the truer I find the statement that you cannot judge a book by its cover. It's amazing what people will say if you give them the right opening.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My first experience was in Green Bay and I was completely hooked. I attended a CS meet-up in Appleton around the time I began to seriously consider my road trip and I knew by the end of the night that there was no way I could turn my back on the chance to meet so many more interesting people. Over three months, I stayed with 37 different hosts, not including the occasional meet-up. With one exception, every experience was incredible. I am very excited to continue surfing across the US and hope to be able to host in the very near future.
Interests
Reading--anything with writing on it and I'm hooked. I love good used bookstores. I love being able to have an intelligent debate with someone--usually about politics or whatever bandwagon the politicians are shouting from for the week (i.e. abortion, gay marriage, voter ID). I enjoy being able to discover new ideas and ways of thinking--even if they're old ways, they may be new to me.
Music, Movies, and Books
Gone With the Wind, The Princess Bride, The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, The Dark Knight
The Tiger's Wife, The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lord of the Rings, The Samurai's Garden
As far as music goes, I find this to an ever evolving list. I generally like music I can move to, but also enjoy classical. Always excited to go south and hear Bluegrass on the radio.
Really does seem to depend on my mood.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
An abandonded church at the top of Hierapolis in Pammukale Turkey--I was the only one there and am probably one of the few people who has ventured up there (thank you Lonely Planet).
Petra
New Year's Eve in Times Square with everyone singing Imagine a few minutes before the ball dropped
Teach, Learn, Share
No matter how much you may disagree with someone, it's important to listen to that person. When we stop listening to each other, we start screaming and that gets us nowhere. Once you listen to someone, it's easier to understand them.
Be passionate about whatever you do.
