Resumen
Sobre mí
I'm from the south-east U.S. and have been teaching English in rural Chilean Patagonia for the past year. I'm passionate about literature, languages, and human rights work.
Traits I admire and try to cultivate in myself include open-mindedness, honesty, empathy, curiosity, and an adventurous spirit.
At the moment, I'm planning my first trip to the U.K. for a week-long seminar in Norwich and I'm hoping to do some couchsurfing while I'm there--I hope we can meet!
Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing
When I travel, I like to get to know a place inside-out and take the opportunity to meet and share with new people instead of holing up on my own. I prize good conversation and open communication and am a quick adapter to different customs.
I haven't couchsurfed yet, but I did WorkAway (working in hostels in exchange for lodging and meals) for four months in Chile. I've posted a screenshot of references from a couple of my hosts in my photos.
Because I'm transient at the moment, I'm not currently accepting guests, but I look forward to being able to when I have a more permanent place!
Música, películas y libros
Favorite poets include Gerard Manley Hopkins, T.S. Eliot, Franz Wright, Tim Seibles, Seamus Heaney, Ocean Vuong, Raúl Zurita, Tomaž Šalamun, Yusef Komunyakaa, Pablo Neruda, Wallace Stevens, Ilya Kaminsky, and Miroslav Holub
Favorite books include One Hundred Years of Solitude (Gabriel García Márquez), As I Lay Dying (William Faulkner) 2666 (Roberto Bolaño), Middlesex (Jeffrey Eugenides), Cherry (Mary Karr), The Order of Things (Michel Foucault), and Invisible Cities (Italo Calvino)
My favorite movies are Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Santa Sangre, and Chungking Express. I also have a soft spot for structuralist films (see: Wavelength) and truly, deeply terrible movies (see: The Room).
Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones
I love sharing language in any capacity--teaching and learning. I also study and teach creative writing/translation and am always excited to share my projects and learn about others'.
I enjoy sharing recipes from different cultures and can make delicious traditional Southern U.S., Jewish, and Chilean food.
I'd also be very happy to help out with housework or any projects you have--let's talk about how we can make this a symbiotic arrangement! (:
