I'm a Kiwi living it up in the USA - hiking in beautiful spots and meeting amazing people. I recently finished my Masters (environmental policy) in Upstate New York and am thankful to get a chance to travel in the Americas before I head back home to New Zealand. I'm an avid hiker and love multi day trips, but I also enjoy most other things outdoors - including mountain biking, and climbing.

I have a thing for dystopian fiction - Margaret Atwood, Orwell, Huxley, etc. Currently reading Starhawk's The Fifth Sacred Thing - a utopian novel - here's hoping I'll get a taste for utopian stuff! I also really like poetry, some of my favorite poets are Ada Limón, Mary Oliver, Ross Gay, Margaret Atwood, Emily Dickinson.

Music - i really like folk and funk at the moment - The head and the heart, of monsters and men, the civil wars, Bon Iver, Curtis Mayfield, Bill Withers, Shuggie Otis, Jill Scott. I recently saw the Fleet Foxes play in Reno which was awesome. I also have a not-so-secret soft spot for 80s pop music - think Madonna, Pat Banatar, Michael Jackson.

I saw wild sock-eyed salmon in a river in the Northern Cascades in Washington while hiking, there must have been 30-40 of them. Truly amazing!
