About Me

Travelling with my family has been fun, but nothing compares to going it alone. Which is why I am now on 'Couchsurfers'. Hello!

Originally from the UK, I am currently working as an au pair near Washington DC - and as much as I would love to host you, I doubt my host family would be too comfortable with me inviting strangers to sleep on their floor. However, I intend to return favours by becoming an active host once I'm settled in a place of my own.

My New Year's resolution is to see more of America, and I intend to use some of my free weekends this year to do this.

I am a vegetarian (but don't worry, I plan on providing my own food); with a bit of a coffee addiction (which, again, I can cater for). I am usually early to bed, early to rise, and can sleep through pretty much anything. I'm tidy, I'm cooperative, I'm appreciative.

I am always eager to hear about new places from the people who know them best.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I came to the States in August 2014 as an au pair, and am hoping to see as much of the country as possible before my two-year visa expires.

My 'bucket list' includes New York City (NY) and Philadelphia (PA) on the East Coast; California, Nevada, and maybe Colorado and Utah on the West Coast. I know, I know - typical tourist itinerary. But I am open to suggestions.

Interests

Various. Including (but not exclusive to): writing, reading, theatre, film, rock music, philosophy, psychology, biology, travel, animals, the weird and wonderful.

I like going to shows, movies, visiting museums, guided tours, road-trips, inexpensive eateries, walks (long or short, city or country), and parks. I'm trying to stay away from too much of the 'touristy' stuff, and am always eager for recommendations of quirky local stuff.

Music, Movies, and Books

Rock musicals, arthouse films and dark comedies are my genres of choice - the quirkier, the better. 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' is a firm favourite. Currently, I am trying to build on my knowledge of science fiction films. Bestow on me your most weird and wonderful movie, and I will embrace it!

Book-wise, I like dystopian sci-fi and gothic literature, as well as some non-fiction. Music-wise, my mp3 player contains a mix of 70s rock, 80s pop, soundtracks, and some heavier stuff. (David Bowie and Marilyn Manson are fighting over the most space.)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Taking a tour up into the Carpathian Mountains in Transylvania with my family to see the local farming communities and the wild untouched scenery. Breathtaking!

I don't pretend to know all there is to know about my country, but I have travelled in the UK quite extensively. If you're planning a trip, I'd be more than happy to help with tips and suggestions.
