About Me
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love getting to know cities from a local's perspective just as much as showing people around my own home town. Meeting new people from all around the world, catching a glance of their everyday-lives and learning about their culture is an additional perk of couchsurfing for me.
Music, Movies, and Books
there are way too many artists I enjoy listening to. A few of them are Paolo Nutini, Clueso, Joshua Radin, Manu Chao, Lisa Hannigan, Michael Bublé, Brandi Carlile, The Kooks, Mumford and Sons, Zaz, Buena Vista Social Club, Parov Stelar, Jack Johnson, Simon and Garfunkel, ...
I guess there's an indie-folk tendency , but I'm fairly open for most other genres as well.
If a movie is directed by Woody Allen or Quentin Tarantino chances are high I'll enjoy it. The same applies for movies starring Christoph Waltz or Leonardo Di Caprio (more his recent movies such as "Catch Me if You Can", "Wolf of Wall Street" and so on). As with music I'm generally quite open for most genres.
At the moment I'm particularly fond of Alice Munro and her short stories. Besides the classics I got to read for my English degree I also enjoy reading anything related to my second field of study, in particular Oliver Sacks' case descriptions in "The Man Who Mistook His Wife For a Hat" and "Hallucinations".
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Most stuff that I experienced during my joint study semester (dog-sledding in freezing Ontario, a fairly spontanious weekend trip to the frozen Niagara Falls, driving down the US West coast and back up through the inland) and my au pair year (taking care of two British kids, meeting other au pairs from all around the world and exploring England and Scotland in our time off).
Teach, Learn, Share
Before my PhD. I studied psychology and English. I'm happy to share my knowledge and discuss topics related, but not limited to those subjects. I also try to be up to date about Austrian and global politics and find it interesting to learn about developments in countries that aren't popularly represented in the media.
When it comes to finding out new things I am fairly open to most new topics and in most cases easily enthused by listening to people who are passionate about what they are talking about!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm happy to share my cultural knowledge if you want to know anything about the Austrian way of life and my cooking and baking skills. I have literally enjoyed making cakes for as long as I remember and so far people have mostly been pleased with the outcome :)
Countries I’ve Lived In
Austria, Canada, England, Germany
