About Me

I'm a 2D animator, storyboard artist and freelance illustrator. I like to travel, but I think hotels are really boring, especially when one is trying to absorb as much of the local culture as possible in a limited time. I love gardening. I have 3 chickens and 3 ducks, and sometimes they help. Other times they get to my vegetables before me. I also grow quite a few rare succulents and air plants in my greenhouse. I want to learn about beekeeping next year. I'm a storyteller at my library and love kids and books, so it's a good fit. I'm keeping traveling to a minimum lately so every trip has to count.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm trying this out instead of hostels to see if I like it better. I'd also like to make friends I can stay in touch with!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I like folk music, punk rock, alternative...I guess I'm pretty mainstream, but I really love music. My favorite band is Jack's Mannequin.
Movies: I like french cinema and animation of course, but anything with a good story that takes risks will win me over. I'm pretty laid back about films. My favorite director is Satoshi Kon.
Books: I am a total bibliophile. I can talk for hours about classical literature, plays and comics in nearly every genre, but I'm not up to date on poetry. Forgive me :P. I think Diana Wynn Jones is my favorite children's author. Her imagination is fantastic. O. Henry is a close second though. Tongue in cheek humor is the best.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Fishing for tarantulas in Paraguay is probably not noteworthy, but it's the only thing I can think of right now. It's amazing because I am super scared of spiders and have no idea what I was thinking trying to catch one with nothing but gum on a string. What are mere IMDb credits compared to catching and then being chased by an angry tarantula?

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm from a Paraguayan ethnic background, and am always eager to talk about that culture. I'm also an Oregonian who has been casually studying natural medicine, wildcrafting, and folklore for fun since I was little. These hobbies make travel much more interesting, as I can add new flora and fauna to my sketchbooks on nature hikes and uncover new stories and uses for local plants from social encounters.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have been told I'm a good guest. I'm tidy and I always bring gifts. Usually food but sometimes other things. If you would like one of my succulents or air plants, I will be only too happy to share with you, since I enjoy growing them very much!
