About Me

I'm a 20 something young professional working for a human rights nonprofit in the nation's capital. I love bar trivia, Netflix bingeing, and exploring the city- so I basically sound like every other young 20 something, but I promise I am truly fun to be around :) I also love The Room, bad puns, perfecting chocolate chip cookie recipes, and judging peoples' parallel parking skills from my front porch. As someone who was a community organizer and campaign worker in a past life, I thoroughly enjoy social justice discussions but am not an asshole about it and love opportunities to exchange ideas and do activisty events wherever I go.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I originally made this account while exploring options for my job actually- I plan housing and accommodations for human rights defenders while they're traveling in the U.S., and I wanted to see if this would be a good avenue for them to find places to stay. Turns out the answer is a pretty solid no (language barriers and general safety concerns were the biggest factors) but I was so intrigued by the culture and friendliness of people on here that I kept the account.

And now I'm planning a trip to New York City for this weekend and am looking for a host for myself and my boyfriend, since we're traveling together- so I might be messaging you soon if that's your neighborhood!

Interests

-Social justice issues (race, gender, class, sexual identity and orientation, ability, etc)
-Cutting really intricate snowflakes out of paper, and generally having really awesome intense christmas decorations including a decked out tree
-I like going for long walks because I love people watching
-Comedy shows, especially improv
-Supporting other people's cool hobbies (cheering on my friends at their marathons, attending their band performances, etc)
-I do (or at least attempt) the New York Times crossword puzzle every day
-I get asked for directions a lot - just one of those approachable faces I suppose? - and I spend a lot of time thinking about the funniest ways to respond to tourists who approach me. I never end up following through with them because I don't wanna be mean, but one of these days I'll land on a real winner and have a great story to tell.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
Beach House, oldies like the Temptations and Louis Armstrong, Angel Haze, Chopin, Lily Allen, but pretty much anything except for country

Movies:
The Room (as previously mentioned), I love chick flicks that feature male actors playing straight characters but who normally play joke characters (Dan in Real Life with Steve Carell, Spanglish with Adam Sandler, Stranger than Fiction with Will Ferrell), thinky movies (like Ex Machina which I just saw the other day, or the Lives of Others, or the Truman Show), and I love me some old school throwbacks. Just watched the Neverending Story on my birthday a few months ago and it was the biggest gift to myself ever, such a treat.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I can make the loudest, wettest, most perfect on-command fart noise with my mouth that you will pretty much ever hear. It's perfect to deploy in awkward moments or when someone just said something serious and the mood is ripe for lightening.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Great cooking skills, conversation, awkward stories, deep respect for personal space and cleanliness (I'm an introvert at heart and have a lot of feels about being a good guest), and an exchange of ideas.
