About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I can't wait to detach myself from...well, myself! I am very curious to see how much of what I consider to be "self" is preconceived by my surroundings and expectations.

ABOUT ME

The blood of my viking ancestors courses through my veins! I'm a spit-fire. I don't mind that, nor will I deny it. I'm fairly out-spoken, but I'd like to think I'm an open and logical person. I'm very social and love meeting new people but there are few whom I show my entire self to. I'm quite selective with who and what I put my faith into. I come from an educated, liberal family who love me very much and give me free reign over my own life. I've come up with a metaphor which I find helpful in regards to my own life and explains my personal philosophy in a nutshell. Here goes: "Life is like riding on a bus. Some people are naturally anxious, impatient, and doubtful of their full potential, so they get off at the first available stop. (Maybe this is pregnancy...a young marriage....a family inherited job, for example.) But the more adventurous passengers tend to stay along for the ride as long as possible. These brave souls are holding out for something better...something different. The path less traveled. And these stops, well--let's just say, they're at the end of the line. I'm still on that bus, waiting for my stop--wherever this crazy ride takes me.

PHILOSOPHY

One foot in front of the other. I'll follow my own two feet wherever they'd like to go.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm very new to the Couchsurfing community but would like to find more ways to get involved. I can't host anyone at the moment because I'm couching it myself but I would love to meet new people before embarking on my own adventure.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've slept on plenty of couches in my day...and I always leave the bed made in the morning. :)

Interests

I've always had a passion for writing. I've been writing poetry since my teenage years and feel very comfortable on stage. I've participated in and helped organize some of my community's poetry open mic nights and also enjoy Slam poetry. Recently I've gotten into acting; I was helping a friend out with a play for his directing class and ended up really enjoying myself. I paint, I draw, I like to sing...though my talent has never been formally verified, I am justified by the mini Janis Joplin living inside my head. Let's see, what else....Oh! I have a fixed gear bicycle that has out-lasted 4 years of battery, mulitple accidents and everyone's expectations. I get hurt a lot but there's something about not having brakes that I find freeing.

Music, Movies, and Books

Musical go-tos: The National. Silver Jews, WHY?, cLouddead, The Fugees, Erykah Badu, Minus the Bear, The Viloent Femmes, Velvet Underground, Jollie Holland, Billy Holiday, Townes Van Zandt, Astronautalis, Deep Puddle Dynamics, Sage Francis, Beach fossils, Black Lips, Tom Petty, The Smiths, St. Vincent, John Lennon...

Books: If you haven't already come across Illusions by Richard Bach...do yourself a favor and pick up a copy. It changed my life.

Movies: So many to list. Lately I've been really into the old Grindhouse films. The exploitation genre is as funny as it is ironic.
