About Me

I'm an archaeologist, most recently finished a job in Climate Change Heritage in Edinburgh. Always keen to chat about old stuff and sustainability! I'm now taking some time to travel and explore the southern hemisphere for the first time. I'm a laid back person who enjoys meeting new people and always do my best to be an easy-going houseguest. I play the fiddle, do acro, like to sing (often in the shower) enjoy cooking (would love to cook for hosts!) and LOVE exploring new places.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm hoping to meet some local people as I travel these wonderful countries of Australia & New Zealand. I love to see cities through the eyes of people who live in them and love them. I enjoy connecting with new people and love a chat over a cuppa. I would love it if hosts are able to give me some tips and local info about your favourite parts of a place, your best experiences there and your life there :)

There are some more reviews of me from hosts on my dear friend Joe's profile, as we travelled together through Europe in 2016: https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/joe-thompson-2

Interests

Music - if you want to jam together, or head out to a gig/session, I am keen! Sadly don't have my violin with me on my travels, but can make a noise on a guitar or sing or whatnot

Cooking - let's share recipes, cook together, or enjoy each others' food!

Walking/Cycling/Swimming - I am enamoured by the beaches in this part of the world. Turns out the water is A LOT warmer than in Scotland.

Archaeology/history - I've a lot to learn about local archaeology - tips about the best local museums and chats about your own family history etc. are very very welcome.

Acro! I'm enjoying finding acrojams in Sydney/Melbourne - maybe will even find some acro kids on here too :)

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a folky, can't help it. Also love finding local people making interesting music.

Probably Lord of the Rings for both books & movies!

And almost anything by Margaret Atwood.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Cycle toured from Scotland to France, via England, the Netherlands & Belgium

Teach, Learn, Share

I teach massage to student & community groups, and at Scottish festivals. I'd love to teach you some skills too :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook for you (including non-traditional Scottish dishes, like vegan haggis!), tell you stories, share traditional songs, listen to your tales, clean your kitchen, enjoy your hometown with new eyes.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Netherlands, South Africa

Countries I’ve Lived In

United Kingdom
