PHILOSOPHY

Loving as I love this life, poetry, and the people,
how can I not offer up my bones?

"We must strive to be like the moon." An old man in Kabati repeated this sentence often to people who walked past his house [...]. I remember asking my grandmother what the old man meant. She explained that the adage served to remind people to always be on their best behavior and to be good to others. She said that people complain when there is too much sun and it gets unbearably hot, and also when it rains too much or when it is cold. But, she said, no one grumbles when the moon shines. Everyone becomes happy and appreciates the moon in their own special way. Children watch their shadows and play in its light, people gather at the square to tell stories and dance through the night. A lot of happy things happen when the moon shines. These are some of the reasons we should want to be like the moon.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This past year I had the opportunity to participate in Thailand's 'festival of lights' or Yi Peng/Loi Krathong. All at once, thousands of giant paper lanterns are launched into the air for good luck. One of the most breathtaking, inspiring, surreal sights i've seen.

Teach, Learn, Share

The two skills I cherish the most of mine are painting and drawing. I love having drawing sessions with people. Recently, I've become more interested in sculpting, but i definitely could not tell you a thing or two about it. Any creative arts, especially when it involves the community, is right up my alley.

I would love to learn how to be a whitewater rafting guide. It's always been a dream of mine.
