About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Save the world through hooping.
ABOUT ME
Hula hoops. Cheese. Yogurt. Pesto. German. Circus. Travel. Love.
I let my friends fill in my profile information and this is it :) I'm currently a student at Vassar College, with a Science, Technology and Society major (it's vague on purpose, I'm really interested in women's/public health) and a potential medical school goal. We'll see! I'm from a tiny town in "way-upstate" New York/western Adirondacks, and as much as I absolutely adore the community and warmth of my hometown, I also have really itchy feet and like to move around. I've sort of fallen into the circus performing arts world at college, and it's been a wonderful community and I even got hired at a circus camp for kids over the summer!
As a friend wrote for me earlier, I love circusy things, food, love and friends. I'm pretty affectionate, curious, and open for new experiences and adventures! I grew up in the Adirondack forest, and while I'll always feel a bit more at home in the quiet of the outdoors, I really enjoy visiting cities (especially new cities). I keep a pretty calm head in relatively chaotic and potentially stressful situations, and try to find the fun and beauty in everything.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I'm just a beginner - I've only couchsurfed once, but it was great, and I'd love to keep doing it!
Interests
As mentioned earlier, I'm very interested in circus performing arts, and enjoy a range of activities involved with that (juggling, fire spinning, prop manipulation, hula hoops, teaching...). However, my biggest interest is in medicine, particularly in women's and public health. I'm currently in college and play around a lot with the circus club while working towards medical school. I also spend a fair amount of time building sets for theater groups, as well as outdoor activities like hiking, biking, rock climbing... pretty much anything!
I'm especially interested in learning the history behind places, and how different groups of people interact and how they've interacted over time. So, if we meet, expect a lot of questions about your experiences and knowledge about a place's history!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
While learning to surf for the first time, in Costa Rica, I saw giant manta rays in the waves. I was surrounded by glistening Pacific waves, vibrantly green palm trees, gleaming white sands, and MANTA RAYS. It was the most mind-blowing part of my gap year, and the memory gets more glorified in my head with time, as all great memories do.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach all manner of circus skills: juggling, poi, devil sticks, hoop dance (my forte), partner acro-balancing, hoop diving, staff... silliness!
I'm working with my college German department to tutor intro German and I know a fair amount of basic woodworking as well as some plumbing and electrical skills. I really love building things, both for practical and artistic reasons, so anything in that manner :)
I'm trying to get better at stretching, cooking, rock climbing, and anything else! I'm especially interested in DIY projects, particularly those of the self-sustaining variety (just in case the zombie apocalypse comes sooner rather than later).
