ABOUT ME

i am about to finish up my undergrad education at Cal and plan on taking a year off before returning back to school. i enjoy the company of genuine folks who have a story to tell. i equally enjoy the company of cats and hold the fortune of becoming a crazy cat lady in my distant future.

narrowing down 'about me's' to some simple adjectives is always a good thing right? right. i'm friendly, open-minded, laid back, kind, inspired, and interested. i've always been one to go with the flow in life and am a firm believer that the value of spontaneity will always trump that of plans. when i'm not doing school or working, i enjoy playing the piano, reading, homebrewing, photographing, cooking, hiking, camping, crafting, napping, and a recent addition to this list: traveling.

i'm currently reading Sputnik Sweetheart by Haruki Murakami, and have fallen in love with a quote that has encapsulated my current views and experience:

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

though i am (obviously) new to the CS community, i plan on both surfing and hosting. this upcoming year will probably be filled with more traveling than stable living, so i plan on doing more surfing. once i do settle down though, wherever that may be in the world, i certainly do plan on hosting folks to return the favors and great experiences others have provided me with.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

well, i'm currently writing this during my first CS experience ever. this has been an absolutely wonderful first experience and has set the bar high for future surfing to come. located in Phnom Pen, Hannah and Jon have truly been amazing hosts and i am forever grateful!

Music, Movies, and Books

to name a few, some of my favorite movies include amelie, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, pulp fiction (or really, any tarantino film), the big lebowski, american beauty

some of my favorite books include the grapes of wrath, the picture of dorian gray, the great gatsby, discipline and punish, sputnik sweetheart, outliers, lord of the flies, etc. , etc.

as for music, i listen to and appreciate anything and everything. radiohead, flying lotus, miles davis, j dilla, animal collective, velvet underground, chopin, and the list goes on and on and on

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

i have to say, living in Vietnam has been the most amazing experience I have had thus far in my short life. fully immersing oneself in a culture so vastly different than one's own is truly enlightening on so many levels.

Teach, Learn, Share

DIY and crafting, cooking a variety of ethnic dishes (particularly Vietnamese if you're into that ;]), and teaching English (i taught an English pronunciation course during my 4 months in Vietnam and thoroughly enjoyed it)

i am open to learning just about anything!
