About Me
*Currently travelling so unfortunately I can't accept any guests!*
Hi all,
I am Hanne, 25 and recentely graduated in two different masters, namely chemical engineering and humanitarian aid. After having lived on four different continents (Europe, Africa, South America and the Middle East) for my studies, I am slowly making my way back to Belgium, to settle down and start a new chapter in my life.
I used to live in South Africa, Bolivia and Oman... In each country, I approximately spent one year of my life. Moreover, I was fortunate to see some parts of the world yet, surrounding these countries and areas, because of my studies.
This made me get into contact with a large variety of cultures, mentalities and people and is one of the main reasons why I am also on couchsurfing: I just love to meet up with people, as everyone, no matter where you live or how intro- or extraverted you are personalitywise, somehow has an interesting personal story to tell, views to share or opinions to discuss...
When I am back in my home country, I mostly engage myself in learning migrant children English and in general voluntary work in the refugee camps of Dunkirk and Calais, just over the French border and super closeby to where I live... Here, I keep on meeting interesting and intruiging people too, all with their very own personal (sometimes horrifying) stories... Working there and hearing those stories, but also seeing that small efforts, done by a little group of volunteering colleagues, can lead to some difference or, at least, put a smile on someone's face, all give me strength, enhance my hopes in humanity and make me believe the world isn't such a bad place after all.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Meeting up with and getting to know lovely people all over the world!
Sharing experiences, discussing opinions or views with people from different places
Sharing interests as staying in hotels or hostels, when being abroad, might be convenient, but does not reveal you the full image of a country, according to myself. Learning to know locals and their way of life seems to me maybe even more important than seeing the place itself.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Working in two refugee camps, one in Yemen and one in Uganda, gave me some more insight and made me realize what important elements in life really are..
Doing research in one of the most remote mining cities of the world, at 5000 metres of altitude in the Bolivian altiplano, where harsh conditions are constantly reigning, made me think of life more too...
