CURRENT MISSION

After many months of discussion with my employer, I was finally released from work for two months. Wohoo! So I'll be going on a trip through the US, Canada and Columbia in September and October. Stoked!! Cannot wait to get to see and love new places and people!

ABOUT ME and MY PROFILE

My name is Hannes and even though I am not verified on CS (which is just a different term for paying if you ask me) I am a real person. Usually when I travel, it means either I go camping (and don't look for a host) or I travel with friends and share apartments and alike. I am not a huge fan of hotels. When I travel alone, I sleep in dorms or... occasionally I stay with CS members. If you are concerned about the verification, I am happy to provide my facebook and you can look me up. I just don't see a reason to pay for using it every other year. I'd much rather donate to support the network.

I am in love with outdoors! During my holidays I like to hike or go mountain biking - but actually I am not doing either as much as I would like. I guess that is the unfortunate part about a modern day life, with an office job, living in the city and everything. But hey.. I pick every opportunity! Professionally I've finished a masters degree in Renewable Energy Engineering and I am working for a German wind turbine manufacturer in a global environment.

I love to see new places and much prefer the countryside. If I decide to visit cities, I pick wisely. And it would be a lie if I'd claim none of my best days and nights took place in cities. Travelling-wise I have come around a bit. In 2013 I hiked on the Appalachian Trail in the US (and checked out New York, Boston, Philly...). Last year (2016) I have been to Nepal and hiked on the ABC trail. There is so many more places I wanna go....

I'm a friendly, very trustworthy and easy-going person. I'm neither extremely extrovert nor introvert. I guess its easy to get along with me :)

I haven't really though about it ever since but with my current trip coming up, I remembered all the nice people I have met and the cool memories. So I would like build up on that...

In 2013 an unexplored chemical reaction must have happened in my brain, which caused me to convince myself I could pack my stuff and just go hike the Appalachian Trail for 3 months, without considerable hiking experience. So that's what I did. I scraped together the few bucks I had left in my empty student pockets, bought a bit of equipment and headed to the states. Three months later I had hiked 750 miles (approx. 1200 km), killed tow pair of shoes and dozens of Snicker bars, got my knee stitched up and got to see tons of people and places. The good just as the bad. It's been one of the greatest things that have happened to me and barely one day goes by without me remembering this amazing time.
