About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Stay focused and steadfast.

ABOUT ME

Coffee connoisseur. Patron of art (made by friends). Certified Guinness drinker. Martial artist. World traveler. Teacher. Paleontologist. Ukulelien. Film lover. Gadget guy. Pub crawler.

PHILOSOPHY

Do not accept anything by mere tradition... Do not accept anything just because it accords with your scriptures... Do not accept anything merely because it agrees with your pre-conceived notions... But when you know for yourselves -- these things are moral, these things are blameless, these things are praised by the wise, these things, when performed and undertaken, conduce to well-being and happiness -- then do you live acting accordingly.
-- Kalama Sutta

Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem (Entities should not be multiplied unnecessarily)
-- William of Ockham

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm a contributed CS member! :-)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Had my first CS experience (June-July 2008) in Java, Indonesia. I was there doing research, and I surfed all across the island. I met a lot of interesting locals and fellow travelers, soaked up the Javanese culture like a sponge, and discovered many hidden gems!

Interests

Being goofy. Mountain biking. Badminton. Consuming large quantity of good coffee. People watching. Political satire. Evolutionary biology. Critical thinking. Smelling the desert after the rain. Sunsets. Playing my funky uke. The ocean. Joining the critical mass. Island reggae.

Music, Movies, and Books

I phase in and out of different music genres, but I do love a good sci-fi flick, or zombies walking the streets, or blood-sucking vampires (thank you Bram Stoker!). Books... I like books that have to do with science.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Been on the equator in two countries on two different continents.

Seen and studied really, really old human fossils in Africa, Europe, and Asia.

Teach, Learn, Share

World prehistory. Traditional Chinese martial arts. Meditation. Travel stories.

Countries I’ve Visited

China, Ecuador, Germany, Greece, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
