About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel Through All 50 States and Make a Documentary About It- as cliche as that might be

ABOUT ME

Adjectives to describe me: Honest, Friendly, Good Heart, Compassionate, Fun, Adventurous, and Straight.

PHILOSOPHY

For the moment, to live and work through all 50 states for a couple of years, and a documentary with a particular theme to be revealed later will be the end result. Always give your best and never get discouraged.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

The best time to travel, I believe, is when you are young, full of energy, and open to experience in an attempt to define who you are. Being young usually translates to having little money. Couchsurfing frees up that money for new experience. I'm trying to help the site by spreading the word among traveling friends.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I recently discovered the site when planning out a trip. I look forward to that morning when I wake up staring at somebody else's ceiling or pet.

Interests

New experience, travel, live music, and documentary filmmaking. What gives me satisfaction is the creation of art that moves me and hopefully other people in a positive and adventurous way. I love the process of preparing for a documentary, putting focus and effort in capturing the photographs and video, collecting music from independent bands, and spending hours assembling the parts and mining for the best way to present the media in a moving, beautiful way. Creating something can be difficult, but it is deeply fulfilling.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Independent movies about real life that don't involve car chases, explosions, or presidents handling phone calls about some imminent disaster. A great, lesser known documentary is "Alone in the Wilderness" about a guy that lives in a cabin in Alaska. Music: Always open to great tunes by independent bands and listen to Pink Floyd, Ryan Adams (not Summer of 69 Bryan Adams!), etc. Books: Beat generation and late 60's related non-fiction, Jack Kerouac, Lonely Planet USA 2nd Edition (I like the cover of the 1st edition better, though, with the American Flag on a barn), Paul Karr (Hostels U.S.A. Insiders Guide), Henry David Thoreau, William Least Heat Moon (Blue Highways), Steinbeck, Bukowski (Post Office was funny), Hemingway- he would have been a cool traveling partner, etc.

Teach, Learn, Share

From Nixon's farewell speech: "We think sometimes when things happen that don't go the right way, we think that when someone dear to us dies, when we suffer a defeat, that all is ended. Not true. It's only a beginning- always. Because greatness comes not when things go always good for you, but greatness comes when you are really tested, when you take some knocks, some disappointments, when sadness comes, because only if you've been in the deepest valley can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain."
