About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to discover and embrace the unfamiliar

ABOUT ME

I am pretty down to earth- I love traveling, playing music (particularly on the accordion), cooking, and speaking in Spanish. Hiking is a favorite activity- along with anything else relating to the great outdoors. I grew up in the middle of Arizona and know all about desert creatures and canyons.

I am an artist and love painting and printmaking. I think painting with oils is like cooking with delicious fresh butter and herbs. I love good color combinations. I'm an enthusiast for creativity: making books, cards, puppets, anything with anyone anytime.

I lived in the province of Buenos Aries for a year as an exchange student- and studied abroad in Sevilla, Spain. Right now I focusing on tango. I go out dancing all the time. I love bike riding- I ride my bike everywhere!

I love learning about new places, cultures and customs by participating in the local life of the place. There isn't any better way to explore and learn about a place than by walking around and getting lost! I love seeing/observing/participating in people's daily routines.

PHILOSOPHY

Always be positive and flexible! Dive into situations and give everything you've got.
Live with compassion!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surfed other people's couches when I traveled across the United States and have gone to various couchsurfing events- hiking, to language exchange to just having some drinks!

I also made amazing friends in Southern Spain through Couchsurfing. I ended up living with some fellow couchsurfers!!

If you are a dancer, I know all the places to particularly go tango dancing. I also live close to some salsa venues.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I surfed couches while moving across the country!

I had an awesome experience when attending the Yale Tango Festival. My hosts were extremely hospitable and helpful.

And where would I be without my Couch Surfing friends/hosts in Spain!?!? They went beyond the norm and we are now really good friends. Many of my friends in Spain were also a result of couchsurfing!

Music, Movies, and Books

Right now I am hooked on tango music: Di Sarli, Canaro, Astor Piazzolla, D'Arienzo, Rodriquez, Otros Aires etc.

I also love Debussy, Chopin, Amalia Rodrigues, John Lennon, Paul Simmon, Pedro Luis Ferrer, Pink Martini, Mano Chau, Phillip Glass, Ravi Shankar, Mazzy Star and oh yes, Cesaria Evora, plus much more!

a few books:

Full Woman, Fleshly Apple, Hot Moon
Don Quijote de la Mancha
Llano en llamas
Cuentos de Amor, Locura, y de Muerte
The Alquimist

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In Arizona I participated in a HOPI rain ceremony/dance. Normally such dances aren't open to the public- even to watch. I was lucky to dance with them.

I also participated in a Turkish bread/food making meeting in Belgium! While visiting my Turkish friend, her whole family gathered to make a month's worth of bread and other delicious delicacies. It was amazing to see their team work and hear them chatting in Turkish.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am very interested in cultural/art diplomacy. That is using art/theater to help people from different cultures learn about each other.

If you are interested in making books, painting, or weaving, I can definitely share my knowledge!! I love making things with my hands. I can also teach you a song on the accordion- if you have an accordion! I love learning how to play different instruments.

Right now I am learning about teaching! I am helping high school students improve their English, writing skills and general thought process....or at least that is my goal!
