About Me

I'm a 24 years old Belgian living in Bari, Southern Italy. I did my university years in Belgium where I studied mathematical engineering and graduated in June 2016. After that, I took a gap year in New Zealand where I discovered the amazing way of life that is backpacking. I had initially planned to spend roughly 10 months in NZ but eventually ended up doing the last two months in the USA. Since I could not work in the USA and cheap accommodations were somewhat harder to find than in NZ (especially in big cities), I decided to try couchsurfing. Thanks to CS, I've been able to travel in California for about 6 weeks without spending too much money. More importantly, I met some many interesting people through my stays (hosts and other surfers alike) and had a glimpse of what it looks like to live in California. I came back to Belgium in August 2017 and I'm now doing a PhD in Bari.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I listen to many different things, ranging from classical music to gangsta rap. One of the music style I'm the most fond of is 60s/70s rock music, with bands such as The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin being among my favorites.

Movies: I'm a big fan of cinema and it's quite difficult for me to choose my favorite movie. Stanley Kubrick is probably my favorite director though and 2001: A Space Odyssey and A Clockwork Orange are definitely among the bests in my opinion.

Books: Difficult to say once again but among my favorites are The Stranger by Camus, 1984 by Georges Orwell and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In February 2017, hundreds of pilot whales got stranded on the coast of the Golden Bay in New Zealand. I happened to be around that location at the time so I drove there and worked as a volunteer to help them get back in the water. Working all day to keep those big mammals alive was definitely an experience I won't forget !
