Overview
About Me
Born in Chandigarh (India). Lives and works in Delhi, Chandigarh and Auckland(Newzealand). Harpreet Singh is an IndoKiwi artist, whose practice includes drawing, painting, video, printmaking and installation work , his work draws the viewer’s attention towards the painful truths of migrancy and displacement .His practice aims at the performative interrogation of physical action, by using the artist’s own body as the basic material for creation. Through the ongoing investigation of a body's social and individual identity, recent work has been focused on food as a symbol of heritage , a reflection of fragmented notions of nationhood and it has been wasted by certain nations. The body attempts to present the shape of its (subject) matter transformed by consumption, on a literal and metaphorical level, through the performance with leftovers from the restaurants and the personal experiences gathered over the years while travelling. His ideologies and practices incorporate influences as varied as Modernism and Eastern spiritual beliefs and his current output uniquely blends Eastern and Western techniques and influences.
He has graduated from Arts College, Chandigarh, completed his Masters from Banaras Hindu University ,studied from Morningside college of Arts, Brisbane, Australia and from University of Auckland. . He has participated in a number of workshops and symposiums, taught in many institutes and has also worked in Auckland Art Gallery.
The artist lives and works in India and Newzealand
