About Me

Hi, my name is Harri, I'm a nineteen year old student that lives in Paris.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Maybe it's not perfect, but how can you refuse a tool that lets you get to know new people and their local town ?

Staying in a random far-away residential area rather than just across the main cathedral/museum/square of a city is much more enriching in my opinion. It makes you experience what life in the place you’re visiting feels like : that is one of the main things I search for when travelling.

For the moment I am the one that is travelling, but in the future when I have the time and private space required for it, I would be glad to welcome other travellers in Paris : I find it fun to show people around the places where I live, and of course it would be an opportunity to break the monotonous train of life by meeting others!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music : I've noticed that I'm fond of many bands and musicians of the late 90s such as Radiohead, Massive Attack, Gustavo Cerati, Aphex Twin and Björk.

I also listen regularly to Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Yes, U2, King Crimson, The Smiths... I would love to meet someone that could introduce me to less well known music!

I know how to play the piano but I’m not half as familiar as I should be with the world of "classical" music. Nonetheless, I did have the chance to work on Schubert’s D960 piano sonata last year - that certainly left a mark on me, the piece is worth a listen!

Books : Thanks to my studies, I've had to take an interest in French literature. I did like reading Céline's Voyage au bout de la nuit and Stendhal's La Chartreuse de Parme recently. And I do enjoy a good fantasy novel from time to time (but I'm definitely not an expert of that genre!).

Movies : I do admire how seeing a film can completely change your mood, in the same way as when you wake up from a memorable dream. That's why I have fond memories of Beau Travail (by Claire Denis) - the beauty of the film (culminating in that last dance) was enough to make me feel better when I was going through some pretty dull times.

Video games : I haven’t been playing a lot recently but the two classics that are Zelda Ocarina of Time and Final fantasy VII are among my favourite games. I also like the richness and craziness of JRPGs, I was hooked by the Xenoblade series for example.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I had just turned 17, I cycled 650km alone in three days, in winter, from Paris to my hometown in Wales. Battling heavy rain and wind all through the last 200km did feel quite exhausting... But two years later, now that the bad memories are fading away, I can't guarantee you that I won't try it again (in two days ?) 🙃

Update 2024 : I did it again, in the Czech Republic and Germany this time :)
