Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

Living in one country for all your life is like listening to one band all your life.

Coach surfing obviously saves all its participants a lot of money, but, oddly it provides a much richer experience!

I've been fortunate enough to have got a lot of pleasure from meeting people who are local to the cities I have visited. Because they have shared their knowledge with me and made me feel welcome I have learnt more and have had a better time.

I would like to continue having those experiences and make sure others have them!

Interessen

The scientist in me wants to experiment and so I'll give anything a go.

I have a pipe dream of becoming an artist but mainly photography/printing is just for my own pleasure.

Ultimately I'll probably go into research and help push the frontiers of bioinspired nanomaterials and other such green technologies... Hopefully.

But for now I'm throwing myself into bartending as I'd quite like a break from studying. Also, bartending is an internationally demanded talent! Why not make use.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Have been fortunate enough to hike in the foothills of the Himalayas. By far my greatest walking and camping experience. We traversed a small glacier and walked alongside rivers. Were within the clouds during a thunderstorm. Suffered altitude sickness. Befriended a stray mountain dog called 'Patti'. Will always stay with me.

Hitchhiked down Big Sur and the rest of the west coast of California. Staying in a trailer park commune. Getting a lift off a speed-pursuit training state trooper; a silicon valley engineer and other characters. Slept outside the train station of the Grapes of Wrath town 'Salinas' after receiving all the left overs from a local Taco Bell.

Sat chatting for two hours with a Cuban gentlemen on the Malécon about Cuban politics, ration booklets, tourists, the changing way of Cuban life and other such things.

These are just a selection, but I'm sure I could dig up more. Surely the question should be: what is the next big thing you plan to do...?

Lehren, lernen, teilen

Well... If you like photography we can definitely shoot together. Either the streets of wherever we are, or we can take portraits. Or spend the day setting up a budget studio and seeing what we can do. I always travel with my trusty Nikon FM2 and plenty of film.

Or, I'd you want to dance, I'd be down. Will happily dance to anything. Have had a tiny amount of street and salsa dance lessons. Can share what I know but there is a good chance you might have to lead...

But also I am a cocktail bartender! If you have a collection of booze/or are indeed visiting me and my collection of booze. We can see what we are able to make~~

Other than that I am outdoorsy (scout leader) and love a hike/camp.

Happy to do the cooking and cleaning to make life a bit easier for the host.

Otherwise I guess I can just break the monotony of everyday life by serving as a hopefully-rewarding guest.
