About Me

Life sized malay gay hobbit who's also a Gryffindor.

My day job is as boring as anyone else's day job, except when I steal staplers and stuff. I'm an aspiring Social Worker.

My nights are mostly spent on reading books on sociology and political science, or anxiously waiting for Steam sales to happen. Must. Have. Watch Dog 2.

Rupal is queen until she takes her wig off.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I first opened up a cs account because I wanted to stay in Australia for free (lol) but it eventually led to me being more confident of myself when it comes to meeting new people. So far, I've had three people stay with me before, and the friendships that we've made are pretty amazing. I'm looking forward to more of that in the future.

I've always hated the idea of going for commercialized tours, because they don't offer me the freedom I need to explore and truly learn about one's culture. I think the best way to appreciate someone else's culture is to see it through their eyes, and not through overpaid tour agencies. Couchsurfing does that for me.

Interests

Travel. Lots of it. Mostly to nature-themed locations.

I also enjoy long walks by the beach...? LOL NO I ACTUALLY HATE GETTING SAND IN MY SHOES but I do enjoy walking all over the place and see the country from a local perspective. I love reading history, trying out new food, experiencing new ways of living, and understanding and reconciling my faith in people. I also like having good wine.

I also like to wake up in the middle of the night to cook instant noodles. It's a weird habit of mine, I get hungry even after a four course meal.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy various music, from indie to mainstream top 40s, but my all time favourite genre would be musical theatre. I have an obsession for Les Mis, Phantom, Wicked, Book of Mormon, and many many more. I have been involved in a bit of musical theatre in the past as well, but being an adult with an office job hasn't really given me the time to do so again. One day more, perhaps ;)

I love all the Harry Potters and LOTR movies, nowadays I love watching bootleg musicals lol, but I extremely love watching RuPaul's Drag Race.

I've been reading up a lot of sociology, free speech, and religion these days, and I I'm quite passionate about it. My dream one day is to be either a sociologist, psychologist, social worker, or someone in politics, because I dream of having equal rights for all.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've traveled to Sydney and Bali alone for 7 nights. Doesn't seem like a big deal, but it was hard for my mum to let me go. So that means alot lol. Finding my own food, lodging, shopping, friends, is one experience I can never forget and I'll never regret. I truly realize now that the world does not revolve around me.

I also taught my cat to play fetch like a dog. But he's kinda lazy now, so instead he's taught me to play fetch like a human. Sigh.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd teach that life really isn't that complicated. It's how you see things in a different perspective. Don't bother trying to be somebody else as how the media portrays us to be, just be who you are, and I'll love you as it is.

I'm more than willing to teach you everything Singaporean, specifically the Malay culture- I (read: my mum) can cook, I can weave traditional ketupat, I can sing (in the shower i.e. the free concert will be outside the bathroom door, thanks), I am pretty eloquent in the Malay language, and a little bit of Mandarin Chinese?

I'm all for learning other languages. I think it's fascinating how many words in our language are actually rooted to other languages in the world. Doesn't that technically mean that one language is connected to another? That we're not so different after all.

I have so many Singaporean stories to share. I don't even know where to start.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Singapore is a little taste of everything Asian. If you've never been to Singapore, I can bring in for you so many Asian delights and gifts that I have grown to love over the years. If you're into culture, I think this is best I can bring you, when it comes to tangible objects, of course.

My cooking skills aren't bad, so with the right ingredients, I (read: my mum) can offer to cook your lunch, pretty good with cooking Chicken Curry and Nasi Lemak ;)
