Music, Movies, and Books

Music? If it's kill! Kruscifix, Juju Mob + Chief Kamachi, Hasan Salaam, Immortal Technique etc. (ie. raw fucking hip-hop) Japanese hardcore bands that start with G (Ghoul, Gauze, Gism and especially Gastunk!) Wolfpack, Hellbastard, Excruciating Terror, Disrupt, Inepsy, Discharge Discharge Discharge (Discharge) The Dubliners and The Pogues! ...Leonard Cohen, Billie Holiday, Cesaria Evora, Madeleine Peyroux (and their ilk), gypsy jazz, flamenco and Argentinian tangos (Astor Piazolla) old film scores (Henry Mancini) bands that are inspired by them (Pink Martini) real country music -- (Yonder Mountain String Band, Goose Creek Symphony, The Blackthorns and most especially Munly and the Lee Lewis Harlots) what the kid with the banjo was playing in Deliverance, medieval choral music (Palestrina, William Byrd) Arabic masses, gypsies who play the clarinet (Barbarose Erkose) the bits of Wagner that Herzog used in the soundtrack to his Nosferatu, Gorecki's Symphony of Sorrowful Songs, Oum Kalthoum and Anouar Brahem, The Rebel Spell, Total War, Mass Grave, Radioactive Vomit, Chapel and Deathwinds.

My favourite movie is The Adventures of Baron Munchausen...and then Grinch Night! I don't even know where I'd find that anymore, haven't seen it in years.... Lucio Fulci's Zombi 2. Dellamorte Dellamore. Cannibal Dead. One film that I just saw that I liked was Tetro! Other all time favourites are Behind the Sun, City of God, Ordet, Life is Beautiful and Cinema Paradiso.

As for books...I like them even more then music and movies -- starting with Giacomi Leopardi: all his poetry and the Zibaldone. Dante's Divine Comedy (all of it, not just the Inferno) Edmund Spencer's Faerie Queen (even better!) Gods and Fighting Men, Cuchulain of Muirthemne, The Worm Ouroboros, the Gormenghast trilogy, The Immoralist, Luigi Giussani, Oscar Wilde's short stories, everything James Joyce wrote up to and inluding Ulysses, which is the crowning achievement of Western literature (I read it at least once a year) Dove, for being a beautiful book that changed my outlook on life, Kurban Said, E.M. Forster, Jorge Amado -- The Little Prince, One Hundred Years of Solitude, Shepherds of the Night, Tereza Batista...and all the stories from A Thousand and One Nights.
