About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To help create experiences that bridge the physical and digital worlds, to experience the world using technology as a tool and, also without using technology at all
ABOUT ME
I'm an easy-going guy who likes adventure, local experiences and FOOD! I enjoy meeting other travelers while traveling, through friends or while at home in the bay area, and appreciate hearing others' life and travel stories. I work in tech and love gadgets that help improve quality of life and increase our connectedness with each other, but also passionate about experiencing natural beauty (and the variety of cuisines!) in the real world. I love the beach during summer or on a tropical getaway, the snow during ski season, the city for its nightlife and flavors, or just the comforts of home with friends, family and pets. I enjoy electronic dance music and the power of good storytelling through video/film/theater.
My email address is hasslunsford@gmail.com - you can also iMessage me at this address!
PHILOSOPHY
Without the bitter, the sweet ain't as sweet. Enjoy as many sweet moments as possible!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've hosted a couple times at my place in Oakland – both foreign travelers as well as other Americans. I've also attended some CS events in San Francisco and hope to attend more in the bay area.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I Couchsurfed in Belize during a scuba diving trip, had a great experience, and plan to do it more! I'm currently planning a trip to the Amazon.
Interests
I'm getting around to crossing things off my "bucket list" and experiencing wondrous places that either pump up the adrenaline or put my relatively minuscule existence into perspective! Examples of things I have crossed off my list recently are cage diving with great white sharks, hiking Mt Fuji, and experiencing the Peruvian Alps/MP.
Beyond that aspect of my travel interests, good design and good food thrill me. I'm always checking things off of my Yelp bookmark list of ethnic hole-in-the-wall eateries (my favorite type of dining). Good design, from fashion, architecture, and tech inspires me, and I constantly seek experiences that bridge the digital world with the real world. I also make a habit of starring the latest catchy EDM tracks.
Music, Movies, and Books
Movies - Sci Fi, Comedies, Horror
Music - EDM, lounge, indie rock
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Being dropped off on a tiny sandbar called "The White Island" off the shore of the tiny island of Camiguin in the Philippines: during my mom's childhood the waters teemed with fish; when I first visited it, the eerie beauty of crystal clear water without any signs of life thanks to excessive dynamite fishing on the past.
4x4ing around the entire island of Cozumel as a tropical storm was about to hit, attempting to dodge the fleeing crabs who were littering the road.
Discovering the locals' swimming hole at the base of Volcan Arenal in Costa Rica and enjoying the thrill and camaraderie of taking turns diving 20 ft down off of the rope swing.
Teach, Learn, Share
I enjoy being "tech support" for people who aren't as familiar with the latest technology as myself. I would like to learn from people who are able to minimize their resource footprint on the world and live nomadically, living with as little possessions as possible, which I would like to do someday. I want to share my passion for good design with others.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm a considerate, clean guest who is easygoing and likes lighthearted fun.
