I read a bit of English and Russian literature but mostly lack the focus for the really profound stuff. I like modernism and minimalism: Hemingway, Knausgaard, Sartre etc.. Listen to a lot of Bloc Party, Pink Floyd, Joy Division and The Streets. Zeppelin, Hendrix, Eric Clapton, The Smiths and Bowie also feature prominently on my Spotify.

- Backpacked the Balkans with no plans, little money and few prospects. Made it out alive, unscathed and (mostly) without lasting trauma

- Snowboarded the French Alps

- Attended a sold-out football match in Germany - for free - without speaking a word of the language

- Got dumped by my ex in Mexico City whilst on holiday

- Lived and studied in Denmark one winter

- Spent many summers canoeing and camping in the Canadian wilderness

- Was nearly killed by a surfer in Barbados
