About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live: "to live means to be aware, joyously, drunkenly, serenely, divinely aware." Henry Miller

ABOUT ME

I grew up in Ireland but have always had a desire to travel abroad and experience as much as I possibly could. My first forays abroad were during my summers while at Uni. I travelled around Europe and spent a summer in the U.S. I studied in Mainz, Germany for my 3rd year of college and loved it.

After I finished college, not having a clue what I wanted to do with myself, I saved up as much Euro as I could, packed a backpack and headed off to South America. First stop Ecuador. I intended to travel around the continent for a total of 6 months but it was two and a half years later before I returned home. I came back the same person but with an entirely different outlook on life.

Back home in Dublin currently, completing an M.A in Translation Studies, while planning my next adventure.

I'm a spontaneous, last-minute kind of girl.

PHILOSOPHY

Live, love and learn

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new to the whole couchsurfing scene (though I joined quite a while ago based on advice from a friend). Currently can't host but I am keen to get involved in couchsurfing events and find interesting things to do.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As I said above, very new to the experience. But during my travels have met a lot of couchsurfers and was very impressed by their attitude and the famous "CS spirit".

Interests

Laughing, reading, sports (playing basketball and watching football), running, meeting new people - love having long interesting conversations, small talk bores me intensely, getting out into the great outdoors - hiking and adventuring

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: A bit of everything - like getting advice from people more knowledgeable than me on what's good. Can't beat a bit of 80's cheese for a fun night out!
Books: Far too many to list but my favourites include: Rushdie, Midnight's Children, Wilde, The Portrait of Dorian Grey, Enright, The Gathering, all Harry Potters, all of Zadie Smith etc etc
Movies: Again far too many to list but anything Coen brothers or Martin Scorsese

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of my most influential experiences was being the manager of a crazy Irish bar in Quito, Ecuador. Definitely the most fun time of my life because of all the fantastic, interesting people I met.

Teach, Learn, Share

Em...languages are my particular skill. I'm always willing to help people learn and always eager to learn new languages myself.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Austria, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Croatia, France, Greece, Netherlands, Peru, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In
