ABOUT ME

We are a laidback couple who have been together for four years, got married in Jan 09 and went on our first OE in May for our 2 month honeymoon!!
Have been to Korea, England, France and Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Italy, Greece and Egypt.. best part was definately the people, and the different lifestyles. The sun was certainly a good thing too!
Shane is from Lower Hutt, New Zealand and works in computer programming, and Hayleigh is from Hawkes Bay and works in legal support.
We try not to say no to any new experiences and think of ourselves as open minded. Our friends think we are a very easy going couple and we tend to just cruise along. Holidaying certainly works for us!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Would love to meet new people around Europe, get a feel for how it really ticks, instead of just where the travel agent says we should go. Would love to return the favour for people coming to Wellington!
Have been out for drinks with groups of couch surfers too - always good to hear other peoples experiences, and hear tips and tricks for places they have been.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Had some people stay with us before going away which was amazing. SO cool to teach people about where we are from, show them our favourite things in our beautiful city and see people fall in love with it. Its amazing to have people in our home who lead a totally different life to us, and have them share that with us.
Then stayed with four people in Europe and met plenty more which was very cool to have the role reversed!
Have surfed abit too and its great. We were abit worried about not knowing where to go and what to see in each place, and couch surfing totally rules that out. We have been lucky to stay with people who have had time to show us around and teach us about their country, their city.
So good to go to a local bar in Amsterdam off th beaten track and meet the locals, experiences you couldnt get if staying in inpersonal hotels.

Interests

New cultures, reading, getting to know people, walking, adventuring. Currently trying to choose a new country to move to.. it changes everywhere we go!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

* We each did a sky dive in Taupo, NZ, was so amazing, recommend to everyone!
* Camden Markets in London on a Saturday - so many people and stalls, especially Cyberdog is worth a look
* Bike riding through Vondel Park in Amsterdam - so pretty and easy to ride around
* Tramping around New Zealand - our first overnight trip was incredible!
* The pyramids in Giza - so amazing to see up close!

Teach, Learn, Share

hrm... ok something to teach: you should wash new jeans inside out with quater a t-spoon of salt in cold water. it helps preserve the colour
Also if in Wellington.. Take bring a coat! Take a trip out to Red Rocks if you have a couple of hours.. you can go for a long walk along the beach at the end of the North Island. If you walk far enough you can see the South Island, and the ferry will come past. There are seals there from September for a few months, but they are ok so long as you dont get between them and the sea.
