About Me

Hello there friends,

Some people call me bubble girl. Some people accuse me of glitter bombing every place I go. People know it's me with one quick glance at the dance floor.

I'm Hayley.

I've discovered that it's not impossible to travel and follow your dreams, no matter how old you are. I am young, and it may be ridiculous to put so much trust into others when I travel to places that are not my home. I don't think so. I acknowledge the danger, but I believe there is more good than bad in this world, and connecting with humanity in this way feels too good; I wouldn't dream of giving it up because of fear.

I am a very adventurous person who enjoys adventuring much more when it involves the kind of closeness couchsurfing/hostels provide. I tend to travel light, but usually with a ukulele, endless amounts of glitter, and bubbles in tow. The clunky New Rocks and bright colored hair should give you an idea of how colorful a person I am if the bubbles and glitter do not.

23. Going to school to be a choir teacher. Learned how to perform Phlebotomy. Doesn't know how to make any worthwhile latte art, but can tell you a lot about coffee. Lover of hugs. Endless amounts of excitement, awfully wonderful puns, and spirit that has gained me notoriety, among other things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love closeness. I love feeling like I am a part of the world around me. Traveling is not excluded. Whether you want to spend an afternoon walking through the Lincoln Park Zoo petting goats or showing me your favorite dive bar, odds are, I will appreciate the perspective you have for the world you live in.

I just want the adventures to have characters, warmth, and memories.

Interests

I play ukulele (it's been about 6 years), as well as guitar. I am a dancing fool, and I will probably ask you where I can find a solid dance night (goth/industrial, 80's New Wave, or Drag Night). I love learning new things in new places, and can definitely appreciate the simpleness of a really wonderful, eye opening conversation.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Everything about Industrial/Cold Wave. Wax Trax(!) artists of yester year and others are most definitely included. I have found my immense love for couch surfing through a fellow couch surfer, Amanda Palmer. Sloth love \|/. My musical taste is all over the map, but a few of my most notable favorites are Amanda Palmer, Damien Rice, David Bowie, The Cure, The Smiths, The Revolting Cocks, Skinny Puppy, as well as many others.

Movies: I love what most consider independent films. Anything that inbibes emotions into the viewer. Favorites: A Love Song For Bobby Long, My Blueberry Nights, Once, etc.

Books: I am a lover of classic literature, as well as some very vulgar, intense realism. Bukowski is a huge favorite, and John Steinbeck's way of painting a world on pages has always inspired me to see the worlds most minuet details. I am a lover of heartbreakingly beautiful writing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Do you know who the Misfits are? Familiar with Michale Graves?
I opened for him once.
Yep. Me, on ukulele, in front of a bunch of bikers, punks, metal heads, and "misfits".
He sat on the steps behind the stage and watched my whole set. Told me to never give up on music, and told me I had a real gift. I cried.

~

This past summer, when I went to see Damien Rice in Chicago at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion (giant outdoor venue), he asked if anyone would sing Cold Water with him on stage. I got up from my seat, rushed up the ramp to the stage, and accompanied one of my all time biggest inspirations in front of hundreds of people. Life is magical, and never say anything is impossible.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to play the ukulele, tell you stories to help you gain the courage to do what you love the most, and I will definitely leave behind some magic, if not the glittery kind, the inspirational kind.

What I Can Share with Hosts

An immense love for adventure, laughter over breakfast, watching the sunset and picking out your favorite color from it, the art to blowing the perfect bubble, and how to be way less serious in a world that can be super serious.

I believe in being respectful, especially to someone willing to open their home and life to me. I'll do things like strip the bed before I leave, wash dishes, etc.

You helping facilitate my adventure? That leaves me forever grateful. Thank you. <3
