About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To find all things that will leave me in awe. Whether it be an adreneline activity, breath taking scenery, or a person who leaves me inspired.

ABOUT ME

I'm a very laid back person. I work hard, but I enjoy going with the flow, and try to always be down to earth. I take every experience as an adventure, and try to live my life to the fullest at all times. I enjoy hearing about other peoples experiences, especially their traveling stories. I'm a cultural anthropologist, and I'm hoping that couch surfing will help introduce me to as many cultures as possible.

PHILOSOPHY

Everything happens for a reason. Whether good or bad, all experiences provide you with something new to learn. While some may view this as a cliche philosophy, it is one that I have constantly returned to in my life. I believe this philosophy adapts to each persons life, because the experience and lessons are individualized, and everyone takes something different away from the lesson.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm relatively new to CouchSurfing. I've surfed a total of 3 times (so far), and have loved every time. Each host provided me with a new memory that I will fondly relive through each telling. Each has given me the cultural experience i was searching for, from being bombarded (in a good way) by a bunch of fijians with guitars and kava, to spending fathers day with a traditional Indian family who welcomed me with open arms, plates of delicious (albeit mysterious) meat, and glasses of beer. I look forward to all my future CouchSurfing experiences!

Interests

Traveling, sailing, writing (fictional short stories), trying new types of food, playing the piano, reading, tramping/hiking/camping, surfing, skiing, scuba diving, and exploring areas outside of my comfort zone.

I'm always looking for an adventure, whether it's 5 minutes down the road or on the other side of the world. And i love trying new hobbies.

Music, Movies, and Books

I will watch, listen and read everything at least once. Whether it sticks in my mind, is a different story. Favorite movies depend on a.) if you can watch it over and over and never get sick of it and b.) personal meaning. for me this list would include;
Le Grande Bleu, Moulin Rouge, Despicable Me and then a long list of documentaries.
Music depends on my mood it ranges from classical to hip-hop but rarely includes creaming metal, or 'heavy-duty' rap.
I've loved every book i've ever read (except some textbooks from school). The one that has always taken first place is the Poisonwood Bible. if you haven't read it, yet. read it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2011 I traveled to Uganda to help design/build a refugee village for the Acholi women. I helped take a girl to a mental hospital to get her epilepsy pills. While i was there, I was given a tour of the facilities and able to meet a house of girls who were staying there full time. There genuine excitement (no matter their age) as well as their interest in me was heart warming. Their smiles and hugs are memories I will never forget. Even with the language difference they were jabbering away to me as if we had been best friends for years.
Traveled from Island to island in Indonesia (where some of my family live).
And i've been chased out of the jungle by an orangutan in Borneo.
