About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Wander and work meaningfully and with heart!

ABOUT ME

2018: My partner Scott and I share a full life centred on a great community and meaningful work in film and food systems. We are based in Toronto and love to spend days pretending we are tourists in our own city. We get into nature whenever we can, like to lead canoe trips with friends and go cycle-touring, and grow a balcony garden. We are politically engaged and bring a feminist values to issues like climate change and decolonization.

Our past trips together took us hiking through Turkey, cycle-touring through Romania, motorcycling through the US, and exploring the pulpo and fishing villages of Oaxaca, Mexico. We have made extraordinary friends through our travels... And we are very excited for our upcoming trip to France!

2014: I am (sort of) settling down after a nomadic two years through Canada, India, and Nepal. I am feeling out Toronto and finding an incredible community here. My favourite thing to do is to explore - to meet new people, wander in new places, touch my tongue to new flavours. I like to write about my experiences or share them directly with a friend to help me saturate in whatever is going on. Being outdoors heightens any experience for me. Canoeing, hiking, and skiing are some of my favourite activities along with reading and writing.

PHILOSOPHY

2018: Sartre's ideas about choice have resonated in my personal life; the grass is greener where you water it. I'm also interested in the invisible, structural barriers that allow some a greater freedom than others to express their free will. These are ideas that Scott and I like to explore, and then dissolve into a dance party :D

2013: Happiness is following my heart and sharing life with the people I love. If I can do this while trying to learn something new every day, I will die happy and satisfied. I love to learn... and I love LOVE!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Curious, generous exchanges with strangers- so that we can see the world through another person's eyes! I am independent and like a mix of wandering off solo for an afternoon and then meeting with a host or friends to share a meal and stories of the day.

In the longer run, I'm excited to reciprocate all that generosity, love, and friendship I got while traveling!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

2013: Recently surfed around Turkey and in Detroit with my boyfriend and met some awesome humans.  Previously, my friend Meg and I surfed across Canada - from St. John's, Newfoundland to Victoria, British Columbia. The again through India and Nepal. IT WAS AMAZING. We met remarkable people, so many teachers who shared their world-view and expanded our own.  Couchsurfing is the only way to go!

Interests

I love to dance and sing but do neither gracefully or well! Being outside makes me happy, so do good company and good conversation. I love to write, paddle, hike, and listen to storytellers regail me with their tales. I've got a few stories to share too!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love historial Canadian fiction and reading fiction that relates to the place I am visiting. I just finsihed reading a book for every Canadian province I travelled through and am now working through a stack of Indian novels. The In-Between Worlds of Vikram Lall and A Fine Balance are favourites. Shantaram seduced my friend and I into buying a motorcycle to ride around Rajasthan - books help animate the world around us. I am a reading nerd once I get going.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Thrown an Indian party for a gang of friends and family who were in full costume, danced to Bollywood, and worked their way through trays of dahi puri and vats and vats of homemade saag paneer, chana masala, dahl, tandoori chicken... etc! that my traveling partner Meg and I made. I also met a man who could take any feather and identify what bird and which part of the wingspan it was from, he was amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Things I am learning about and want to keep exploring: piano, cross-cultural communication, aspiring to learn Arabic and will trade for French lessons, and I believe everyone can/should flip and carry a canoe! My goal: write (and speak) some spoken word, before the year is up!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Scott is an amazing self-taught chef and I am a very wiling sous-chef! We like to cook with hosts, experiment with local ingredients, and share wine.

We both have explored a lot about Canada's history, including the parts that aren't so widely shared - so we like to share both our love for our country, and our critiques.
