About Me

Hi, I'm Hazel!

I can't host anyone at the moment since I'm currently pursuing my graduate studies in another country. I'm taking up environmental studies. I like writing on my free time but recently, my hobbies seem to be leaning towards drawing Japanese anime characters.

I like travelling and trying out the food in different countries. I think food is also a way to learn about a country's culture. Language is another and that's why it's so interesting to go see new places and meet different people. I do hope one day, when I can stay with someone or when someone stays with me, we can actually learn about each other's food from back home (cook/bake together). That'd be really fun and amazing! My Costa Rican friend once taught me how to make tortilla and it was really fun when we made it together for her party in her school.

I also like learning other languages (not necessarily good at it), learning about other cultures and hiking (even if my body disagrees). I like nature so I prefer a trip to the countryside versus shopping in big cities/malls. However, I admire different types of architecture so even just a stroll around the city makes for a good trip for me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Meet different people, especially locals of the countries I am visiting. I think the best part about travelling is actually learning from a local and not just getting information off the internet.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like listening to R&B music but most of the songs I listen to are from the 90's. I also like listening to Japanese songs. Some of my friends used to joke around saying that my playlist was like a mini-UN - it has songs in different languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien, Italian, Filipino.

I like a lot of movies. Basically, most of the ones I watch fall under sci-fi, fantasy, action/adventure, mystery, thriller, documentary (some), cartoons... and I also like Disney and Pixar movies. I don't mind watching horror movies but it's been a while since I've watched a good one.

I also like reading. Genre is relatively similar to that of movies. The authors I currently follow are James Rollins and Rick Riordan. Waiting for one-two books per year is a bit difficult for me considering that I usually finish reading one in a couple of hours, so I would appreciate recommendations.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share stories and experiences and whatever new snacks I happen to enjoy. I can also share knowledge of English (and some useful phrases of the other languages I speak). I'd like to say I can teach Chemistry but considering it's been a while since I've actually worked with anything related to chemistry, I cannot promise the advance lessons but basics are okay.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories/experiences
Maybe also products from my hometown or where I am currently living in.
I can also cook --> granted (just to say in advance) I'm not a master chef but I can cook a bit. Just can't promise that it is something people will like because I also think that we all have our preference growing up eating certain kinds of food
