About Me
I like the idea of karma, so I buy into it.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My first CS experience, I met up with Isa (Spain), Alejandra (Ecuador), and Rahul (India) to travel from Kolkata to Darjeeling on train. From there, Alejandra and I crossed the border into Nepal, where I stayed with Debbie (ex-pat living in Nepal) for a week or so and we had a blast walking the streets with her darling baby, Luna. I haven't hosted anyone yet, but once I am more "settled down" (though really, do I ever want to be?) I am absolutely anticipating hosting travelers and passersby.
Interests
I usually end up wandering down the "road less taken", and then laughing after realizing the reason people haven't taken that path...Adventurizing pretty much encompasses what I enjoy in life.
For work and play I cover modern-day Cuba for international media outlets.
I studied Philosophy at university and fell in love with Maimonides. I can talk Kant for days, but probably won't. Unless you need something to lull you to sleep.

Music, Movies, and Books
Don Quixote + anything Woody Allen = my favorite things.I'm not-so-secretly an 87-year old grandfather at heart when it comes to music. Chet Baker, Ella, Coltrane...super shmaltzy stuff.More books, let's see...kinda random, but in order of what I buy/recommend for people most... The White Tiger, The Slap, Without Fidel, anything by Malcolm Gladwell (The Tipping Point, Outliers, etc) and anything by Michael Chabon (Yiddish Policeman's Guild, Mysteries of Pittsburgh, etc) ...and Shel Silverstein. The Giving Tree is still on my top 5. Movies... Harold and Maude has gotta be my all-time favorite; Suite Habana, Caramel, American History X, Inside Man
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Launched the first-of-its-kind women-led IT Knowledge Center in rural, southwest Bangladesh + Hiked the Himalayas (Langtang Valley trek)
Teach, Learn, Share
I used to teach an Algebra class at this ESL high school. In one classroom there were students from dozens of war-torn African countries, drug-cartel'd Central American countries, and famished former Soviet countries. Even still, interacting with these high school students in broken English has been one of the most humbling and best learning experiences of my life. Except for that time I met Muhammad Yunus-- that was pretty incredible.
