About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Not to play follow the leader

ABOUT ME

One time I hitched a ride with some Gypsy's driving a chevy van in Belgium. They were listening to a Christian revival on the radio. It was in Flemish. They told me the end is near. That was twenty years ago. I don't mean to seem impatient.

PHILOSOPHY

Don't regret

Music, Movies, and Books

I love Italian and French cinema, especially early 60's to early 70's. Fellini, Antonioni, Godard are favorites. I like American cinema of the late 60's early 70's the best. Hal Hartley is my favorite American director. I do a free jazz radio show at the local university. I enjoy lots of different kinds of music. The peculiar, eccentric, avant garde is what I favor. Right now I'm reading a lot of Denis Johnson. I like Paul Auster, Joan Didion, Roberto Bolano, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Italo Calvino and so on. I am obsessed with contemporary art. I make sculpture working with new media. I like Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller, Joseph Borofsky, Andrea Zittel and architecture. I'm always ready to dip into lowbrow, if I'm not already there.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've traveled through war zones, seen religious fanatics, played a soldier in a summer stock play, picked grapes in Germany, waited tables in London, worked on a kibbutz in Israel, been a blimp ground crew person, a prop guy at Nickelodeon, drove airboats in Florida swamps for a living, ran for mayor and pretended to be a lawyer to get through customs.

I've seen sunrises, sunsets that I thought could not be topped, loved, been loved, on several continents, eaten mystery foods, gasped for air standing on top of an active volcano and exchanged greetings with Salman Rushdie. I'm leaving plenty out. I'm ready for more.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like to eat new food. It would be great to have someone from another part of the world show me how to cook one of their dishes. I like to hear travel stories.
