About Me

I'm 22 years old, originally from Scotland, but I grew up in Switzerland. My fiancé, JJ, and I have just moved back to Edinburgh from Munich, Germany. JJ's mentioned in my reviews a lot, and is originally from Denmark (but actually he's more typically British than me a lot of the time) so that means I've been in Denmark plenty too. I've got quite an international background and love to travel, hence being on here, and have really enjoyed welcoming people from couchsurfing so far, as well as having great trips while staying with people.
I'm currently learning Russian and soon Spanish so would love some practice in those!
I'd love to host again post Corona (currently we aren't allowed visitors in our homes in Scotland) so write me a message even if you're just planning for the far future :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to travel and would like to see the authentic and real sides to countries when i visit. I used couchsurfing solo back when I lived in Switzerland, and with my boyfriend for a trip in Poland a couple of years ago too, and I met wonderful people. Now I mostly host, and I love the new people and friendships that brings to me! I've also lived with people of many nationalities while studying, including from Italy, India, Greece, Ireland, Denmark and Norway, and I feel like we've always learnt a lot from one another, so I'd like to continue that trend!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love an eclectic mix of music and we have lots of records at home, from jazz, to opera and random 80s hits me and my friends belt out sometimes. I've read some truly messed up books for literature classes, i'm thinking about Heiner Müller and Die Hamletmaschine right now, but I still love literature, poetry in particular.
A book relating to travel that I recently read is Grænsen (or 'The Border' in English), by Norwegian author Erika Fatland. It's a really interesting look on countries that border Russia and how that influences them.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Languages and travel! I'm very proud I learnt Danish very quickly, helped along by already speaking German. It's not a language with many resources for language learning, since the country only has circa 5 million people. Now I'm just hoping to travel more and learn more!

Teach, Learn, Share

I am really interested in language learning and cultural exchange, which allows me to learn from others as well as teach. I've lived in quite a few European countries, and would love to hear about where others are from or have lived too.
I know Edinburgh very well, having lived here for many years. My boyfriend and I both enjoy going hiking at the weekends and can give tips on where to go/ take you for a trip even. I love cooking and worked in a bakery for two years, so that is something i can share! We enjoy cooking with our guests, sometimes German food, or curries, and more recently Moroccan food, and there is often cake and fresh bread in. If there's something from your country we'd love to try it! I will however say that we aren't a café, so we'll enjoy sharing food, but we aren't going to make every meal. We also love coffee so we also have an espresso machine and pourover equipment too (V60, aeropress etc.) So, if you're a fellow coffee enthusiast we can make coffee and talk about Edinburgh's lovely speciality coffee spots.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'll always muck in with cooking and would love to learn about your local cuisine. I hope I'd offer good conversation, although of course the reality can be that the guest or host can be very tired, so I'm respectful with that too. Scottish or Danish curiosities (I guess it depends which we're coming from) could always be brought with, and I'm sure we'd all have a lovely time together!
