About Me

Hi I'm Heather! : ) I am a 29 year old Australian who is travelling for about 18 months or so. I left home last June 2018 and hope to be back home by the end of 2019. I love travel. I also love people. And through this journey learning a whole new love for myself too. Before leaving home I had done a few overseas trips but never anything longer term. Feeling limited with my time and the 4 weeks of annual leave off a year from a corporate job left me feeling like I wasn't making the most of my life. I decided about 2 years before I left to do a long trip....unplanned and just see what happens. I love my home (well Australia as I don't have a home now) and I love my wonderful friends. Travel excites me. Personal growth even moreso. This doesn't happen through a space of comfort and so I'm slowly learning and growing and being the best version of myself I can or at least striving towards it. I'm following my intuition and with each step making beautiful connections with people and seemly falling into experiences which are perfect for what I seem to benefit most from at the time.

I started in Israel visiting a friend studying there, I learnt about the relationship with Palestine and visited there also, went to Portugal for boom festival and visited friends family there, I made my way to Bercelona for another festival and then spent 6 weeks in Berlin, I said goodbye to the friends I was travelling with and went to Czeck Republic and did some hiking, I found a workaway in Romania and spent 2 months travelling there and volunteering at a hostel, a quick trip to Budapest with some Australians I met along the way and then over to Serbia and enjoyed Belgrade so much I found another hostel to volunteer at. I started to run low on money so arranged a working visa for the UK and worked there for 4 months while also visiting friends. After being inspired by someone I met in Romania I decided to walk El Camino de Santiago in Spain. I started this in April and walked 930km over 40 days beginning with the French way, choosing to take the Salvador across some mountains and completing the walk on the Primitivo, this was one of the best experiences. After I found a permaculture farm in Galicia Spain to work at for a month and learnt about growing fruit and veges. I made a quick stopover in Germany again before deciding to head to Georgia to a gathering in a forest in some mountains near Ozurgeti. I spent a month in Georgia and met some amazing people. I'm continuing my travels now through Eastern Turkey and have been blown away by the hospitality of the people. Never have j experienced such kindness and am so grateful to be travelling here and so far only by hitchhiking.
