About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To share stories through music and live an honest, adventurous life.
ABOUT ME
People say I'm a 'calm' guy, which I gather is meant in a good way. My mind is always busy, though, bubbling with dreams and ideas and new projects that never actually see the light of day because the rest of me is too 'clam' to put them into action. I guess it's a double-edged sword. If I were to choose my own description, though, then I'd say that above all I've got a sense of curiosity.
I come from rural Wales and want to see the world before I'm done, not to mention to hear and taste it. I want to sing in Georgia and play the komuz in Kyrgyzstan and produce an opera in Borneo. I want to eat noodle soup while watching Cải lương in Vietnam and I want to paddle down the Ganges all the way to the Bay of Bengal. I want to join in with a Dolan Muqam at a Uighur family home having camel-trekked along the Taklamakan Desert. I hope to do at least some of these before I wake up.
PHILOSOPHY
I live for music, food and love.
I live for stories told and untold.
I live for the adventure.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
While cycling from Stade to Calais I had some fantastic CouchSurfing experiences. I also had one of the most fun and bizarre nights of my life while CouchSurfing in Bratislava and an unforgettable time in Israel. I'm always amazed by just how welcoming, friendly and generous fellow CouchSurfers are. I haven't managed to host anyone so far but I hope this will change soon.
Interests
Performing, composing and generally enjoying music; radio presenting and producing, listening to podcasts; rugby, badminton, long and leisurely cycling trips and trying but failing at water sports; cooking, chatting over a board game, pretending to know how to dance, anthropomorphising the natural world and letting my dreams take over while cuddling up for a good story.

Music, Movies, and Books
Happily, I'm always making new and surprising discoveries in these departments so it's difficult to say. As a rule of thumb, though, I like classical, traditional and jazz musics from around the world and original, artful, thought-provoking films and books. For all of these I've tended to either stick to the European 'gold standard' (John Ireland, Dmitri Shostakovich, Albert Camus) or drifted eastwards to the East (Farewell my Concubine, The Scent of Green Papaya, Mori Ōgai, Haruki Murakami). But it's discovering something fresh that give me a real thrill.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Walking up Mt. Bromo, Java, in time for dawn and then walking around the crater ridges for the rest of the morning. And being born - that was quite amazing.
Teach, Learn, Share
I love simply to discover and try out new things so I'm happy to learn whatever you can teach! I like to cook and to make music so I can teach you something in these departments and am always grateful to learn more. I also teach English as a second language so if you have any questions, I'm your man!
