ABOUT ME

Heimola is a community which has been set up in May 2008. At the moment, we are 5 persons living permanently in the house (Anna-Reeta Talvensaari, Christian Sjöholm, Misha Aronson, Pauliina Helle and Ukko Kantonen), several semi-residental habitants and a cat called Heimo.

Our red wooden house is located in the border of Oulunkylä and Itä-Pakila at Helsinki. It is owned by the city and is rented for us until the end of 2010 through an organisation called Oranssi (www.oranssi.net). The house consists of a one-room flat and a three-room flat with a big kitchen. In our yard we have two houses across the yard (the third one is under constructions) and a beutiful garden with herbs and vegetables. Nearby we have a river for swimmig and a forest for walking.

How we live?
- Peaceful, colourful, healthy, ecological, sustainable, generous life
- Strong feeling of community
- Doing things together: housework, gardening, cooking, eating, dumpster diving, jamming, dancing, singing, giving and receiving
- Share the food, electricity and other expenses
- Organising events: healing day, performance group, full-moon ceremonies
- Teaching dance and art club in a kindergarten nearbe once a week

Dreams for the future:
- Develop our community into a social centre (a place where anyone can come, organise workshops, arrange events or parties
- Transition Movement in Oulunkylä. Integrate people to work together for the locality and against oil dependency.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We offer our beautiful house and garden for travellers to rest their body and mind. Most of us have our personal couch surfing profiles also.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Heimola have become well known for it's hospitality towards every person who steps in from it's door. Even not many surfers have been coming here through CS website, we have been accommodating people from around the world amounts from 1 person up to 18 people. Some of them have been small children, some old grannies.
