Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
During the summer season I occasionally host couchsurfers and other out-of-town visitors. When I'm not able to accommodate you I may still offer to meet and show you a few sites or take you on a harbour tour boat or water taxi ride if you're in town on one of my work days. Just ask.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
A long time ago, in the pre-internet days, I hiked and hitchhiked in Germany, Sweden and Canada, receiving generous lodgings from total strangers -- a bed, a barn, a bare floor. More recently, on a two separate five-month trips in Austria, Germany, France and Spain I was accepted into the homes of couchsurfing hosts, some of whom will remain long-term friends. I have also hosted quite a few couchsurfers myself.
Interests
Sailing and other water sports, tennis, running, hiking, theatre and other visual and performing arts, dancing, crunchy sweet stuff (chocolate, nuts and cookies).

Music, Movies, and Books
Most music from classical to rock (except not too fond of rap, country music and rave).
I enjoy international films, and prefer to watch them in their original language with English or German subtitles. Don't care much for formulaic Hollywood action flics where everything and everybody gets blown to pieces in the end.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Followed the route of the Canadian voyageurs on a six-week solo canoe trip from Montréal up the Ottawa and Mattawa rivers to North Bay.
"Why would anyone leave a perfectly functioning airplane in mid-air?" a pilot friend asked when I prepared for my first (and only) parachute jump. To my amazement, and some people's disappointment, the chute actually opened!
Teach, Learn, Share
Helping my guests or hosts with their English language studies, ballroom dancing, editing their (English) essay or letter. Would love to have you speak to me a little in French or Spanish, or we can converse more intelligently in English or German.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'll be glad to prepare a meal (or assist you and wash the dishes), help sail your boat, install or fix a gate, fence, deck, wardrobe, shelf, or chop wood for your fireplace...
