About Me

We are not accepting guests whilst the corona virus is active. I do not check my mail every day, so I am unable to get back to you until I clear my mail, sometimes that is 4-5 days, sometimes straight away! I retired a couple of years ago from a full time employment, (most recently as an estate solicitor) and have returned to my hometown to be closer to my family. My husband (Laxon Fowler - retired Chem Engineer) and I now have the time and the opportunity to meet new people, and share the passion we have for travel, and our knowledge of Australia, (over which I have travelled very broadly) and New Zealand (which Laxon was born in and has since travelled world wide with his work), and parts abroad .
I enjoy meeting new people, and sharing the knowledge of my own region and Australia. We are omnivores in this home, so if you choose to not eat meat, or cannot eat at a table where meat is regularly served, this will not be the place for you to stay. Also, we have not been satisfied with the engagement we have experienced hosting very young travellers so, if you are under 25, this will not be the place for you, either.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My husband and I have travelled last year to Italy, Turkey and GB and enjoyed some counchsurfing abroad. We do really like hosting travellers from other countries, nations and remote places (to us!) and sharing our home with like minded others.

Music, Movies, and Books

Mark Knophler is my all time favourite (I saw him live in Glasgow this last year for the first time!!); Peter Green a close second, and after them, I love all music. My favourite movie, harder; I would say Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe; but like crime drama, Rowan Atkinson in Maigret; Peaky Blinders; Vera; Endevour; Shetland.
Books - I read anything/everything. Literally. In the last few years there has been very little time to read for pleasure, but have read a great deal of law! Looking forward to time to myself to curl up and read for pure pleasure. I am not a kindle person, I like the smell and feel of printed books!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I attended university as an undergraduate at 58 years old with minimal secondary education, studied law, and graduated with honours. I have also travelled much of Australia by myself, in my Holden ute.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share with guests to our home our lesser known local history, white, and some aboriginal and about the different cultures in Australia.
I can share my experience travelling Australia, and that lifetime trip overseas to the northern hemisphere. I can offer photographs of some remote places off the track, if our guests wanted a sneak preview! Give me warning, so I can get some CD's out!
I never stop learning from others, through their experiences and cultures and am always eager to hear the experiences and views of all other people. Everyone, without exception, has a fabulous life story! Our expectation as a host is that you will interact with us in our home, and share your stories, travels and experiences.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my own local and Australian knowledge, a curiosity of my host's culture and life stories, and an enthusiasm for living and learning. Perhaps we can dine together with a glass or two of wine, and you may experience the non-tourist feel of our community. I have lived or travelled in all Australian states and regions and would be willing to share travel tips and some good places to see, if our guests required.
You have your own room, and bathroom, with a queens sized bed. Sometimes we are able to take our couchsurfers to see some off the track local beauty places.
