Sobre mí

Greetings!

Hi everyone I'm Helen!

I'm a vagabond-farmer type from Woodstock, New York.

For the past 6 years I've been hitchhiking, riding frieght trains, traveling in gypsy caravans and school busses in circles all around the county. Going to rainbow gatherings, living in community run punk houses, squats, camper trailers, sleeping on floors and porches, and many months in tents and bushes.

For the past two years have found myself for most of the year living in the Sierra Nevadas in a small mountian town on the San Juan Ridge working on organic farms.

I have been very inspired by all of the farms I have worked on, and am starting one of my own. Last year I bought a piece of land in the Catskill Mountains outside of Woodstock, NY and built an off the grid tiny house cabin with the help of friends. I have been living in the cabin all winter with a woodstove. I plan to turn the land into a self sufficient homestead-permaculture farm. Eventually growing into a larger project and jump starting a CSA (Community Share Agriculture) and sell organic veggies, honey, and goat dairy products at local farmers markets. The land project will eventually be a flourishing organic farm along with goats, chickens, meat rabbits, and bees. The short term goal is to be self sufficient and the long term goal is to be able to share food medicine with my local community. This is my vision and devine task in life.

I'm intrested in all environmentally friendly, organic, sustainable, permaculture, off the grid-homestead farming things. I also a student of nature, herbal medicine, spiritual practices and paths, yoga, meditation, and life itself.

I am a dog mom of two, Dakota whos a Rottweiler and Rio whos an Artic Wolf, Husky, Canadian Sheapard Mix. They are both people and dog friend, very sweet, and don't mind sleeping in the truck ;) They are my farm protectors from bears, coyotes, bobcats, and mountian lions. They do I great job :)

This winter I've been working as a housekeeper at Menla Mountian Retreat, a spiritual-buhddist meditation and yoga retreat center.

I'm trasitioning back to the farming season as the days get longer once again, packing up and heading back to the hills of sunny California!

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

Anytime anyones ever offered me a couch for the night I've gratefully accpeted their offer. Usually folks I met that day, friends of friends, or total strangers who noticed I could use a shower. I've been couch surfing for years. I am aprofessional couchsurfer, I'm framiliar with all of the ethics, processes, and prosedures ;)

Now a days I usually sleep in the back of my truck when I'm on the road but I am trying something new!

My boyfriend Austin and I are about to embark upon an adventure from New York to Califonia at the end of March and I want to meet local people and make new friends along the way. We are leaving around March 25th heading south on the 81 to Knoxsville, so we can comfortablly camp along the way and don't have to worry about winter storms. From there we are taking the 40 west all the way to Los Angeles. We are planning on camping in National Forrests along the way but thought it would be a good idea to make a couchsurfing account incase theres bad weather, or if we want to experience a city. We are both very nice, friendly, non-threatening humble farmer folks who would be very grateful for a night inside.

Música, películas y libros

I love folky, bluegrass, county mountian music. I play the banjo and my favorite instruments are banjos, fiddles, mandolins, guitars, stand up washtub bases, washboards, spoons, harmonicas, and all the other old fashion instruments. I enjoy anything real, raw, passionate, authentic, that is uplifting, encouraging, and has positive message. I love seeing peoples creativity bloom. I also love drum circles and am a student of the jambe. I also love and empower all buskers and street musicians.

At the moment my favorite book is Light Emerging by Barbra Brennan, a guide to health and healing through relationships and energy, and a spiritual guide to understanding life as a devine being while also being human.
