My name is Helena and I’m currently when I’m writing this 31 years old. I have a boyfriend, René and two cats, Caspie and Mona. I work as a child psychologist in Brussels and this way, even at home I am lucky to connect with people from all different cultures. I love to practice sports but not in a competitive way, just to keep my mind sane and healthy. I actually love taking things easy but I also love challenging myself every now and then. I’m a bit of an introvert who needs its own space but can have this own space also in company of other people and at the same time I can feel lonely when I’m not able to connect with people for a long time. I love connecting to people and I love to just wander away in my own thoughts. I love my friends and family and spending time with them, especially when it can be accompanied with some good food.

I’m vegetarian and I love food, I love cooking and I love cooking for other people. I consider myself healthy, but at the same time I don’t mind having fastfood (as long as it satisfies my taste buds).

I love travelling and at the same time becoming more and more conscious of the environmental impact of travelling. Still, I’m not perfect and for now I haven’t been able to function completely according to my own ideas… I try to be kind to myself, and I sometimes have to set priorities. (Kill your darlings, choose your battles).

In July 2023 I started one of the biggest dreams I ever had: a journey by bicycle throughout the world. My boyfriend can’t join so I decided to conquer my dream on my own. My boyfriend comes to visit whenever he can. So far it has been the biggest adventure of my life. It’s an emotional rollercoaster with some of the most amazing and most difficult moments I’ve ever had. It’s very intense and it’s very beautiful.

One of the reasons for choosing to travel by bicycle is because I hope this way I can connect more intensely with people and nature. I also love the idea of going back to basics.

I’m kind of a perfectionist and one of the things I’m trying during my journey is to set less goals and live more now.

I love to use couchsurfing in order to meet people and find a place where I can just be me and safe and comfortable.

I love my boyfriend and after this one year adventure I plan on further building up my life with him. We are very much in contact, regardless of living a totally different life right now.

I am quite direct and honest in my communication. Communication I consider one of the most important things in any relationship.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am travelling with my bicycle since July 2023 and I will be travelling for one year. During my trip I’d like to connect with people from all different cultures.
