About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To enjoy my youth as much as possible by acquiring new experiences, mostly by travelling a lot, meeting interesting people and getting to know cultures authentically, which involves hanging out with the locals as much as possible! Hopefully I come across some pretty awesome people on the way :).
PHILOSOPHY
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." Mark Twain
'Travel is rebellion in its purest form:
We follow our heart;
We free ourselves of labels;
We lose control willingly;
We trade a role for reality;
We love the unfamiliar;
We trust strangers;
We own only what we can carry;
We search for better questions, not answers;
We truly graduate;
We, sometimes, choose never to come back'
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
While I'm travelling: to discover local cultures as authentically as possible, to avoid being a 'touristy tourist'. Meeting local people and hearing their stories is always the best part of every trip. Not knowing the locals, you don't know where you've been :).
While at home: meeting other CSers while I'm not travelling is so enriching! It has given me the opportunity to even see my own town and country from a different perspective.
Interests
Yoga, dancing, reading, having fun, cooking, hanging out with my friends, enjoying good vegetarian food (love Asian cuisine) and of course - travelling the world!
Music, Movies, and Books
My favourite book is "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini. It tells a story about women's life in Afghanistan. It's really touching and emotional, so it affected me a lot.
My music taste is unbelieavably varied! I can listen to almost everything from Latin salsa music, rock, pop, jazz, opera etc :).
Love alternative movies, a'la movie festivals, non-English movies.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The most amazing experience of my life was spending 2 months in Indonesia in summer 2010, when I was just 18. I participated in a volunteer project called "Young guardian in Action". So I worked in a village called Borobudur, where the world's largest Buddhist temple is situated. I had almost 100 amazing high school students who I taught about world heritage and Borobudur temple in particular. We made some cool activities together, went to see sunrise in the temple etc. I lived with a local family, who were amazingly friendly and loving! I met so many inspiring people and I can honestly say that this trip changed my life and my views on life.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can always tell people about my home country, as it is such a small place that most people haven't even heard about. I can teach some funny Estonian phrases or about our traditions. I can also teach some yoga, as I am a certified yoga teacher! :)
I'm open to learn anything about new cultures!
