About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Enjoying the start of springtime in Dresden.

ABOUT ME

I live in Dresden in a pretty little flat with my girlfriend. I just turned thirty and have an interesting job at a cleantech company. Lately, there is no such things anymore like study abroad or backpacking Asia for three months on a shoestring. I still enjoy a lot meeting new people, exchanging point of views and helping out travellers. Beside languages, my passion is music - I play (mainly) the bass guitar in several bands. I will make you listen to them when you crash at my place :) My girlfriend is a Mexican-born American so you can talk to us in at least three different languages. We share the passion for food, no matter what type of cuisine it is.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Unfortunately I didnt have the chance to host much in the recent years since I spent my student years sharing a rather small flat with other friends. Now that I have my own flat hosting is no problem so you are invited to visit us in Dresden. While there is always things to do, summers are the busiest time - with a lot of little festivals, great hiking and biking opportunities by the river or in the nearby mountains, many cultural activities and good beer and food. I'd recommend anyone to put Dresden on his itinerary when visiting Germany. I am looking forward to hosting you, getting to know you and showing you some of my favourite places.

When I was a student couchsurfing helped me meeting interesting and helpful people in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the US. I have always found it to be a great way to open up your mind and learn from eachother. After all the good couchsurfing experiences I had on my travels I want to give something back!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I think I have quite a typical "CS vita": some friend told me there is a way to travel without spending loads of money on hotels - so I signed up before a trip to Italy in Feb/Mar 2008. There, we had a perfect first CS experience and I was surprised by this feeling of hospitality and trust. I soon realised what the true CS spirit is really about: it is a unique oppurtunity to get in touch with locals, sharing thoughts on life, exchanging culture and languages. In the meantime, I have travelled several places in Europe via CS and it always was a positive experience. This encouraged me to find out if this idea also works out of Europe. During my first trip abroad, I travelled the Emirates and Oman in March 2009 and had an outstanding time there - met so many great people, saw unique places. It was so much of a good feeling to see that the couchsurfing spirit does not depend on culture, religion, sex or whatever! I've noticed that couchsurfers are most of the time an easy-going and open-minded bunch of people.
In September 2010 I returned fron my biggest adventure so far, travelling across China, Mongolia and Russia. I had a host of unforgettable experiences and yet one more time couchsurfing was the perfect way to see a country through the eyes of a local!

Interests

MUSIC
I love music and listen to various kinds of music, especially where rock and jazz collide (see below).
I also play the bass and guitar, currently in two to three bands ranging between stoner rock with German lyrics, progressive rock and jazz/sintiswing/bossa/dance-band.

As far as jazz is concerned, I like Miles Davis, Billy Cobham, Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, John McLaughlin and all those classics, but I also like a lot new acts like Get The Blessing!, Tonbruket, e.s.b., Portico Quartet, Richard Bona., Avishai Cohen etc.

Books: unfortunately, I don't read much anymore but I like a lot the German authors Günter Grass and Hermann Hesse.
