Overview
About Me
Always exploring, asking questions, inviting more from myself and my surroundings. I like to move - hiking, biking, dancing. Food is at the center of my world through growing, cooking, sharing, learning, and advocating for healthier and more just access. I'm curious how cultures look to food as a source of healing and connection.
These days I'm living in Bergamo, Italy pursuing a masters in Montessori elementary education.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have hosted and surfed a ton over the past 7 years. I love the mystery that precedes each stranger and am in awe of the generous people I meet in this community. This experience satisfies my desire for exchange outside of the capitalist model.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have slept under the stars in Oregonian backyards and Portugeuse attics, breathed inthe thin air on a Ligurian bridge, channel surfed, traced cities on ferries and bicycles, learned how to build a bike and how to make Aloo Saag. I have hosted 2 ultimate frisbee champions, a lover of textiles, a poly-expert, a comic, 4 Hawaiian explorers, 3 sweet souls from Vancouver, a Québécois couple, 2 frenchman and later 1 french lady, and so many friends-of-friends.
Interests
Live music, moving my body in many ways, sharing food, reading, trying new things.
Music, Movies, and Books
So much music, but some favorites in this old list:
In Rainbows - Radiohead
Vespertine - Bjork
To Pimp a Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar
Andorra - Caribou
Black Messiah - D'Angelo and the Vanguard
Until the Quiet Comes - Flying Lotus
Once I Was An Eagle - Laura Marling
the Ethiopiques series, especially Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou, Mahmoud Ahmed, Mulato Astatke
Movies I've loved recently - A Girls Walks Home Alone At Night, Call Me By Your Name, The Favourite
I'm usually reading 3+ books at once and always looking for recommendations... these are my classics:
The Sound and The Fury - William Faulkner
House of Incest - Anais Nin
Half of a Yellow Sun - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
To the Lighthouse - Virginia Woolf
A People's History of the United States - Howard Zinn
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I took a ride in an old station wagon to a Portuguese villa in the countryside for a late lunch with 50 horses and 5 warm newborn puppies. Hitchhiking only got better from there.
Teach, Learn, Share
Some things I can teach:
How to cook a great meal out of what's left in the depths of the fridge, do sun salutations and other asanas, speak French assez bien, turn a phrase in an American way, and how to keep warm on cool nights with a little foot-tapping game.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I am (mostly) down to go with whatever flow you've got going on. I'm happy doing solo adventures, but I also like co-creating marathon days of exploring and napping and eating.
