Hey,

My name is Helmut. I'm originally from Vienna, Austria but I try to travel the world as much as I can and meet as many people as possible.

I love music and love playing the guitar and singing. I research new songs to play on my own and also write my own songs, which typically feature Austrian style German lyrics evolving around life, loss and love. Making music with others can be magic, no matter if it is a simple jam or just singing Karaoke.

I'm interested a lot in Music and Technology. I work with a company that creates software for musicians. My hobbies include cooking, reading and playing the guitar.

The best trips I ever made was a camping van trip through New Zealand, a roadtrip through Ireland and a two-day visit to Angkor Wat.

I really like the company of musicians, I believe that music is so powerful that it can unite people without the need of them even speaking the same language. The most beautiful memories I have always include people and music.

Teach, Learn, Share

So here a couple of things I like:

Software and anything tech related. I would like to know more about electronics, but I'm pretty sure there are cool things you can do with electronics. I'd love to build a robot one day.

Although a total amateur, I love building things with software. I created a chatbot that can help you play Pokemon Go, a Twitter bot that will complain to my ISP when the internet is down and some other things. My current project is called Alberich, it is a Facebook Messenger bot that can send you the libretti of Richard Wagner's Ring des Nibelungen together with all Leitmotifs.

Currently, I'm trying to get hold of machine learning and the maths that is behind computers getting "intelligent".

Although I barely understand physics, I'm fascinated by everything space related. Objects with infinite mass, stars the size of our galaxy (VY Canis Majorem ftw) and places in the universe without time are so mind-bending for me.

I love cooking and am always open to learn a couple of new recipes or "astuces". I probably watched too many French cooking shows because French cuisine is my favourite.

Other hobbies include reading nice books, watching movies (who doesn't like that) and going to concerts... the range of styles going from total heavy music to Mozart or Brahms in the Musikverein. Best concert I ever saw: Stromae.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a pretty laid back guy, so we can just chat about anything. For sure I know my city and can tell you where you get the best Schnitzel, where the best Heuriger is (spoiler: not in Grinzing) and where the parties and places are where you can spend a nice time.

Also a good jam session, in case you have a guitar (I have enough for 5 people probably, haha). And maybe teach eachother dishes from our home countries!
