About Me

I am 24 years old, graduated in Philosophy and Mathematics, volunteer in Turkey. I am a quite laid-back and unperturbed, but friends describe me as spontanious, humorous and sometimes all too trusting. I have a positive attitude of life and I am always expecting the best, trying to accept what we couldn't change and to change the things we can. My philosophy is somewhere between Critical Theory, Existentialism and Set Theory. I am openhearted and social, but I like profound and gentle talks as well.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I first tried couch surfing in summer 2012 during a journey through South Eastern Europe. Couchsurfers will know this: Whenever you ring a door bell of a new host, you do not only enter a new flat, but you ar also immediately thrown into someone elses life. Trying to make an understanding of all this is very challenging. Experiences are very different; whit some hosts you only share a coffee, with others you spend days. In any case, it is a very strange combinationof being far away (in the end, you are a tourist in some unknown place) and feeling at home. It is mind-blowing!
Back in Germany I started hosting myself. It was mostly prospective university students, full of energy and willing to discover their future university town. The very same town which would begin to bore me. Again two worlds collapsed at the one and same space! Then I moved to Istanbul where I hosted a couple of tourists.
In the last two years I didn't use CS much - I did not surf because my vacations were often spent visiting friends and I did not host because I moved a lot and did not have a couch...
But now it is 2017 and we need to come together as human beings more than ever, so I reactivated my CS profile - let's see what happens!

Interests

I tried a lot of things during the last years, but some hobbies and interests didn't last long or have been interrupted. I participated in different political groups - check Bristol Reclaim Education! - , I used to volunteer at a small NGO (alegro-weltweit.de) and helped my friends who wanted to establish a model for alternative living at the countryside. I learned languages, some at better, some at worse levels. I tried sports (football, table tennis, swimming). At the moment volunteer in a Turkish NGO, I try home-brewing and I try to make sense out of İstanbul.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: E.S.T., The Doors, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Erkin Koray, Die Beginner and of course Britnay Spears! I like electronic music from the province I grew up.

I enjoy movies too much to give a favourite here. I go to the cinema at least once a week, often more. The film I yesterday was no good, but last weeks "Salesman" from Ashgar Farhadi is definitely recommended. I am waiting for "T2 Trainspotting" to be released. I generally prefer drama to action. I can stand comedy only when being in its darkest tones. Some people don't like to go to cinema with me because I often choose films that are not especially entertaining.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I think i cannot pick out just some two or three moments, but my time spending in Mozambique influenced me a lot, and there were every day small and big moments that left me awestruck .

Teach, Learn, Share

The place I am working also organises (national and international) youth camps in Turkey and gives advise about Tatuta (which is the Turkish name for WWOOF) and about travelling in Europe. So if you have any questions (especially abot Turkey and the Balkans) you can ask me! I like to cook and I am happy to help out. Also with me you will never have a "Let's stream a film, but I have no idea which one..." moment - I promise I will come up with 5 good ideas in 30 sec!
