About Me

We (蓉心/Jung-Hsin/Rosie) and Henrik (華恩) know each other since travelling to a Christian youth event in Hungary in 2015. After living together in both Taiwan and Germany for several months, we got married in 2020 in Germany - just weeks before everything closed down for Covid. Having lived together in Henrik's hometown, Detmold, for almost two years, we moved to Taiwan in early 2022 and now rent an apartment in the lovely and cultural city of Tainan (Southern Taiwan). We usually travel together, we love having adventure, getting to know people and trying new things!

Henrik:
I'm a 33-year-old electrical engineer. In 2013, I spent one Semester of my university studies abroad in Västerås, Sweden. It was a wonderful experience, and it really sparked the flame of travelling and meeting more and more wonderful people in me.

Jung-Hsin:
My passion is film, theater, and acting. That's why I now major in theater education. Most of the time, I am outgoing, open-minded and don't really like to tell what kind of person I am, people will know when we spend time together. ;)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Henrik:
I love travelling and meeting people and had heard only good stories about Couchsurfing from my friends until some years ago. :-) Back then, I've had my first Couchsurfing experiences in Spain where I was amazed by the friendliness of my hosts. So, while I was living in Göttingen for my Master studies, I hosted several couchsurfers from all over the world together with my flat mate. Those were really good experiences, as well. Now, we have already had several hosts in Tainan. Getting to know people with different backgrounds and knowing their motivation for travelling is really interesting for me.

Interests

Henrik:
I'm interested in too many things to be stuffed into a 24-hour day. I also enjoy sleeping and dearly need a lot of it. So I'm waiting for technological revolutions to extend each day to 30 hours. :D

I'm always eager to learn as much as I can and share thoughts, opinions, projects with people, inspire and get inspired by them. The more, the merrier. :)

Jung-Hsin:
I love art. Except film acting, I also do theater acting, drawing, playing music, making handcraft and making delicious food (yes, that's definitely art :D) Art and design histories are also what I'm interested in.
I also like doing sport, such as volleyball, jogging, track and field. Watching ball games is my another hobby of mine (for example, baseball and volleyball).
Other than those, I do like Japanese manga and TV series.
Learning language is (was?) also something I like. When I was in university, I took German, Italian, French, Spanish and Korean courses. Since now I've lived in Germany for more than 3 years, I can speak very nice Denglisch. ;D At the moment I'm learning Japanese.
I also love animals, especially dogs. In my instagram collections there are albums called "dogs" and "flying koala".

Music, Movies, and Books

Henrik:
As for Music, I just LOVE the Wise Guys. They are a German A-capella band which make really nice songs with mostly entertaining, but also socially critical texts. Unfortunately they stopped their business a few years ago, but there's a quasi successor band called "Alte Bekannte". Gotta check them out soon. :)

My favourite books are "Harry Potter", "Die Känguru-Chroniken", and "A man calle Ove". While most will have heard of the amazing stories of the young wizard who goes out with his friends to fight Lord Voldemort using the power of love again and again (don't just watch the film, and say, you "know the story"!), the second book contains really funny short episodes about a communist kangaroo that lives together with a Berlin-based kabarett artist. The third book, eventually, is about a man marked by life discovering his big heart.

Jung-Hsin:
I love Wong Kar-Wai's films, if you love his films as well, I am really sure that we can be good friends! ;)
Other directors like Hirokazu Koreeda, Stanley Kubrick, Christopher Nolan... are also my favorite!

I like Japanese novels, especially those by Haruki Murakami.
1984 and Brave New World are interesting to me as well.

As for music, I like ABBA, Queen, Bee Gees, Mr. Children, Monkey Majik, José González, Haruomi Hosono...
