About Me

Hi! I'm a 21 y/o American student currently attending the Anglo-American University in Prague, Czech Republic, where I am returning to after a semester studying at Sophia University(上智大学) in Tokyo, Japan. I'm originally from southeastern Minnesota. I like running, hiking, cooking, and beergardens! I'm looking forward to using this platform as a way to meet more like-minded people all around the world, and hope that you are able to get as much out of my stay as I am! Who knows, maybe I'll even be able to repay the favor someday :)

I'm a rather lax, easy-going guy. I love being able to spend full days out and about, touring a new city, maybe getting lost here and there too! As I am a student, I would love to have access to a kitchen since I can't afford to eat out all of the time(worry not, I clean up after myself too!) I'm open to staying with just about anyone, as I'm always happy to meet new people with new or different views on life. I'm not much of a partier or club-goer; I much prefer a beer or two at a pub with friends, then getting to bed so that I can wake up to a few cups of coffee and a nice slow morning.

There is no commitment to do anything extra if I end up staying with you! As much as I would love to get to know you a bit, I am eternally grateful for being offered a place to sleep and ask nothing more. If you have things going on in your life, by all means, tend to them. As I said, I'm happy to wander too!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Living on a student's budget can be tough, especially when want to actually be able to 'live' in the places I travel to. I'd vastly prefer if my money were to go to experiences, be they admissions to buildings or concerts, or something as simple as treating my host to a bottle of wine, a beer, or a coffee. I prefer to have my money go towards people, and hope to repay my host's generosity as best I possibly can in my time with them

Music, Movies, and Books

I prefer different subgenres of rock, but definitely enjoy some kinds of rap as well. I like classic rock(Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix,) alternative/punk rock(Why Not, Heart to Gold, Courtney Barnett,) Midwestern Emo/Math Rock(Marietta, American Football, Pinegrove,) and 90's/00's rap(OutKast, Wu Tang, Method Man.) There are definitely some outliers that I also really enjoy, like Dave Matthews, Gojira, Slayer, and Watchhouse.

As far as movies and TV, I'm not terribly picky. I don't watch much of anything in my free time, aside from maybe Anthony Bourdain. I enjoy different animes(JoJo's, Demon Slayer, Haikyuu) and am happy to watch just about any genre of movie.

I've been trying my best to read more lately! I enjoy books about mindfulness or other books that one might consider to be in the self-help category. I like an action fiction or spy novel just as much as the next guy, though, don't get me wrong! Right now I'm working my way through Ezra Vogel's biography of Deng Xiaoping, but it's awful dense so it's taking me quite some time!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My most exciting experience thus far has definitely been my time studying in Sweden. It was my first long period of time away from the US, and by living with a family and going to school with Swedes I was able to gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the culture, language, and people as a whole. It opened my eyes to the sheer size of the world and emboldened me to see the world and meet as many people as I can.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm happy to learn any fun little nuance of another person's experience! I'm open to most anything; how could I know I don't like something unless I've done it once?

I can offer to share with you
- I speak Swedish decently, Czech a bit less decently, and the absolute basics of both Japanese and Chinese.
- Different vegan/vegetarian recipes I enjoy making(nothing too complicated, I promise!)
- How to be a better runner! I'm working on doing more distance myself and would be happy to share tips and tricks
-My experience! I love talking about the things I've learned in my life and am always happy to have a discussion about the similarities and differences of our experiences
